Anne Heche’s Son Homer Claims Actress’s Signature on Will Presented by Ex James Tupper Is Invalid

Anne Heche’s will — or lack thereof — continues to cause tension between theloved ones she left behind.

Per court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Heche’s older son Homer Laffoon (whomshe shared with ex-husband Coleman Laffoon) has filed a nine-page supplementto his previous petition to assume control over his mother’s estate.

The 20-year-old claims that his mother’s ex James Tupper, 57, has beeninterfering with Homer’s attempts to communicate with his 13-year-old oldhalf-brother Atlas Heche Tupper since Heche’s death in August.

Homer also claims in the filing that a 2011 document Tupper considers a will —and which he asserts named him administrator of Heche’s estate — is not validbecause the signature on the document does not belong to Heche and was notobserved by two witnesses as required by law.

Legal representative for both Homer and Tupper did not immediately returnPEOPLE’s request for comment.

Per Tuesday’s filing: “Mr. Tupper repeatedly refers to the email attached tothe Objection as a ‘will.’ However — as a matter of law — the email does notqualify as either a holographic will or formal witnessed will,” the documentreads. “The email fails to satisfy the legal requirements for a validholographic will because the material provisions of the purported will are notin the handwriting of the Decedent. A will is valid as a holographic will, whether or not it is witnessed, if the signature and the material provisionsare in the handwriting of the testator.”

The filing continues, “The email presented to the Court as Decedent’s ‘will’by Mr. Tupper fails to meet the requirements for a valid holographic willbecause the signature and material provisions are not in the handwriting ofthe Decedent. The email fails to satisfy the legal requirements for a validformal witnessed will because the email was not signed by the Decedent anddoes not have two witnesses who signed the document during the lifetime of theDecedent.”

The document also points out that without a proper will, “there can be nonomination of an executor” or an executor selected, in general. This role isimportant as the executor “is appointed to administer an estate pursuant to avalid will,” according to the legal papers.

Homer also called several of Tupper’s own previously filed objections to the20-year-old’s “suitability” to administer his mother’s estate — includingclaims Homer was “‘estranged’ from his mother at the time of her death” —”inaccurate and unfounded. “

Everything we know so far

Anthony Bourdain is the subject of a new, unauthorized biography and it’sgenerating headlines — and a crash response from his former girlfriend, AsiaArgento.

Four years after the Parts Unknown star died by suicide at age 61, the book,Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdain , is set to bereleased Oct. 11 with new insight into the chef and storyteller’s final days. The author — journalist Charles Leerhsen, who’s served as a writer/editor atoutlets including Newsweek, Sports Illustrated , people and _Us Weekly —_had access to Bourdain’s laptop and phone, piecing together a timeline unlikewhat we’ve seen before.

Bourdain’s girlfriend at the time of his death, Italian actress Argento, wasnot interviewed for the project and is not a fan, as the couple’s fiery finaltext exchanges are part of the narrative.

Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdain by Charles Leerhsencomes out Oct. 11.

Why is this a big deal?

Not much has been known about why the popular food world star — who never heldback about struggles, detailing drug use in his 2000 _Kitchen Confidential_tome — took his life. This book surfaces text exchanges Bourdain had withArgento in his final hours, in which he told her she had been “reckless withmy heart.” In the days before, the actress — a fixture in the #MeToo movementand a Harvey Weinstein accuser, who later made a deal with her own accuser —had been photographed holding hands with journalist Hugo Clément. Bourdain’scomputer data revealed he searched Argento’s name hundreds of times in thedays leading up to his death as those photos were splashed across celebritywebsites. The new information — also including many new interviews — speaks toBourdain’s mindset at the time.

Where did this new information come from?

the New York Times reports that Leerhsen conducted over 80 interviews forthe book as well as reviewed files, texts and emails pulled from Bourdain’sdevices, which are part of the late star’s estate. Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, hiswife of 11 years from whom he was separated at the time (they remainedconfidantes, sharing his only child), oversees the estate. Leerhsen said heobtained the materials from a confidential source, but “the estate has notobjected, and I don’t anticipate any objections.” Busia-Bourdain is quoted inthe book, suggesting some cooperation. She declined comment to the outlet.

What do we learn?

Argento said after Bourdain’s death that they had an open relationship. However, a book excerpt in people detailed how upset he became when, fivedays before his death, Argento was snapped by paparazzi with Clément in Rome, including at the Hotel de Russie, where Argento and Bourdain had a history ofspending time together.

The couple, who started dating in 2016 after they met filming a Season 8episode of Parts Unknown in her hometown of Rome, on the phone for severaldays ahead of his death, the excerpt said. People on the production talkedabout how he’d halt filming to take calls from her and they had screamingexchanges. He was described as “incredibly distracted” at the time.

Bourdain’s friend Eric Ripert was with him in Kaysersberg-Vignoble, France forthe shoot, and they enjoyed a fun night out one day before Bourdain died.According to the book, Ripert, who was staying in the hotel room next door, put his ear against the wall that night and was relieved to hear Bourdainsnoring because he was that concerned about him. The next day — Bourdain’slast — the fighting with Argento reportedly resumed. That night, Bourdaindeclined a group dinner and ate solo, eating and drinking a lot. Ripert puthis ear to the wall again that night, but heard nothing.

Additionally, the book claims that Bourdain was isolated at end of his lifeand had essentially vanished from his 11-year-old daughter’s life. The bookalso claims he was injecting steroids, human growth hormone and Viagra so thathis age gap with Argento, 19 years his junior, was less apparent. It is alsoalleged he would drink to the point of blackout and visit prostitutes.

The text messages

In the last three days of his life, Bourdain’s browsing history showed that heGoogled “Asia Argento” several hundred times. The night before he died, hereportedly texted her:

“I am not spiteful. I am not jealous that you have been with another man. I donot own you. You are free. As I said. As I promised. As I truly meant. But youwere careless. You were reckless with my heart. my life. [Hotel] de Russie …It’s only that that hurts’, my A. Perhaps it’s in both our characters. But youare always honest with me. I want to be honest with you. I don’t understandthis part of you. As I hope you will not understand me. But it’s that stings.I meant and mean everything I have ever said to you. But I hope you will havemercy on me for these feelings.”

According to the book, the Italian actress — whom Bourdain bailed out of her#MeToo bind, paying her accuser, Jimmy Bennett, $380,000 for rights to a photoof him in bed with Argento when he was 17 — wrote, “I can’t take this,”criticizing him for his “idiot possessiveness.”

He replied, “It would have been so easy to have helped me out here. I requiredso little. But ‘f*** you’ is your answer.”

When she continued to be unsympathetic (telling him to “call the f*ingdoctor” and saying she is “the victim here”), he replied, ** “My A. I can’tbelieve you have so little affection or respect for me that you would bewithout empathy for this.”

After filming the next day, Leerhsen reported, Bourdain texted with Argentoagain — and it was their last text exchange. He asked, “Is there anything Ican do?” to which she replied, “Stop busting my balls.” He replied, “OK.” Hehung himself that night.

Additionally, texts from Bourdain to Busia-Bourdain are included in thenarrative. One reflected his struggle with fame. It said, “I hate my fans, too. I hate being famous. I hate my job. I am lonely and living in constantuncertainty.”

He also confided about Argento, writing, “I find myself being hopelessly inlove with this woman.”

But he told his ex that Argento scrutinized his social media pages as well asBusia-Bourdain’s, confiding that Argento would get upset when she saw photosof him with Busia-Bourdain and their daughter online. Bourdain asked Busia-Bourdain not to post one on an upcoming Father’s Day.

“You didn’t want me to put a pic that had you in it because Asia would freakout and I have the feeling that won’t change anytime soon,” Busia-Bourdainreplied. “I’m tired of pretending I don’t know you. Or that we are never inthe same place.” Bourdain responded, “I feel you. But I was being honest. Thepap [arazzi] situation is horrendous. Since I left you guys, though, she’sfreaking out.”

Response to the book from Bourdain’s family and Argento

While Busia-Bourdain appears to be cooperating in some form, Bourdain’sbrother, Christopher Bourdain, sent publisher Simon & Schuster letters callingthe book hurtful as well as defamatory fiction and demanded that it not bereleased until many errors were corrected. Christopher told the NYT , “Everysingle thing he writes about relationships and interactions within our familyas kids and as adults he fabricated or got totally wrong.” A Simon & Schusterspokesperson responded to Bourdain’s brother, saying, “With all due respect,we disagree that the material in the Book contains defamatory information, andwe stand by our forthcoming publication.”

Ripert, who found Bourdain dead, told the NYT he did not provide informationfor the book, though he did read it. His assessment was that he found manyinaccuracies, but was surprised that it contained intimate details from thedays in France that he had only revealed to a few people.

Leerhsen exchanged some emails with Argento, who, he said, quoted Oscar Wildeto him: “It is always Judas who writes the biography.” Argento told the _NYT_she didn’t read the book and added, “I clearly wrote to this man that he couldnot publish anything I said to him.”

On Thursday, Argento made quite a statement on social media seeminglyresponding to the negative headlines. She posted a photo of herself in asweatshirt with former professional bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman along with thewords “Stop Busting My Balls.” Those words, according to the book, were herfinal words to Bourdain.

‘We were all so happy to be there’

It’s rare for a supporting actor on a hit TV comedy to turn down the chance toheadline their own spin-off series. But that’s precisely what Rhea Perlman didwhen the makers of cheers — including creators Glen and Les Charles andJames Burroughs — __ approached her about leaving the classic NBC seriesmidway through its run to star in The Tortellis a series that would revolvearound the extended family of her tart-tongued waitress Carla Tortelli.

“They originally wanted me to be in the spin-off,” Perlman reveals to YahooEntertainment on the 40th anniversary of cheers ‘s __ series premiere onSept. 30, 1982. “But I felt the soul of cheers was the bar people, and Ididn’t want to leave the bar to go to a completely different show. I told themI didn’t want to do it, and could I please stay at the bar? So they went offand made it [without me].”

That turned out to be the right call. Premiering in January 1987, TheTortellis — which starred Dan Hedaya as Carla’s ex-husband, Nick, and JeanKasem as his new wife, Loretta — lasted only 13 episodes. (Perlman doesbriefly appear in a dream sequence during the pilot, a scene she says shedoesn’t remember filming.)

cheers , of course, wound up running for 11 seasons and 275 episodes, finally closing its doors in 1993. And Perlman appeared in every single half-hour. “I was there for the long haul, man,” she says, laughing. “I wasn’tgoing anywhere!”

And cheers fans wouldn’t have it any other way. After all, Carla was the> Boston’s bar’s resident cynic, regularly providing much-needed reality> checks for regulars like Norm Peterson (George Wendt) and Cliff Clavin (John> Ratzenberger), as well as the rest of the staff, including owner Sam Malone> (Ted Danson) and his on-again, off-again love interest Diane Chambers> (Shelley Long).

“Carla was always bursting in,” Perlman fondly says of her alter ego, whooversaw a rambunctious family that grew to include eight children. “She’d bebursting in to complain, she’d be bursting in to beat up Norm, she’d bebursting in for whatever it was. Her life was not simple, and she carriedwhatever was with her right into work. I just remember it being veryenergetic.”

Ted Danson once said that you were the first actor cast on ** cheers**— does that jibe with your own memory?

Well, if he said it, how could it not be true!? [ Laughs ] I really don’tknow, but I’ll go by whatever Ted says. I had done an audition with ShelleyLong, so I knew she was in. And I knew they were deciding on who was going toplay Sam, although I thought Ted had been cast by then. My memory is prettyfoggy, though, so I would always trust someone else’s.

What do you remember about that audition with Shelley?

It was scary as hell! We were in a room in Paramount where we would later haveour read-throughs, so there was just enough room for all the writers to bearound. I have no idea what we had to read — I’ve blocked that part out of mymemory. As soon as they said, “OK, you’re in,” I forgot all about that part.

When you started playing Carla, how much of the character was already thereon the page, and how much did you bring to the part?

I feel like everything was there; every piece of the show was there before wewere cast. We all brought our personalities, so I don’t feel like deep changeswere made to accommodate the actors. The actors fit into what they wrote, andI was always very thankful for that. There was a lot less improvisation inthose days in general unless you were on an improv show like Saturday NightLive or something. And I was always much more comfortable being able tointerpret what somebody else wrote rather than creating my own lines. That’swhat was so remarkable about the pilot: there wasn’t a lot of fishing around,it was just making it come alive.

What do you remember about filming the pilot? Were there any big mistakesthat had to be re-done?

The way we filmed the episodes back then — and I don’t know if this is howthey still do it now — is that we’d basically film everything once, maybetwice, in front of the audience. If there was a big mistake, we’d stop and dothat section over again so we could get the laughs in. Then after the audienceapplauded wildly, they would go home and we’d do pieces of it again or,rarely, all of it again. Once in awhile, the writers would come up with a newjoke or something that we’d add in. And Jimmy did a lot more camerawork in thebeginning, so we would stay later. Later on, that fell by the wayside and wefound it was better to just keep it simple.

The animosity between Carla and Diane is established right off the bat in> the pilot. Was that always a fun dynamic to play?

Yeah, the animosity was essential. I was very grateful for the animosity, because any real animosity I might have had came out with the character! [Laughs ] That was a great relationship: I worried about Sam being with her, because he was my best friend there. But she was the perfect foil for him. AndI got along with Ted right away. I mean, it’s pretty hard not to! He’s just anamazingly great person and loves what he’s doing. He gives out a lot of loveand I can take that.

To be fair, most of our relationships were filled with a lot of love. I mean,we were all so happy to be there! And we had no idea that the show was notdoing well in the beginning. It’s part of the lore now, but we were almostlast in the ratings. The amazing NBC executives at the time had our backs asactors. We were all very protected, and just felt like we were having a greattime. It just seemed like we were very funny and the audience loved us.

Did you get a sense of when the show started to take off?

Well, we always thought we were taking off! [ Laughs ] But I’d say it tookmaybe a year or two before many, many people would stop me on the street or inthe supermarket. But we always felt that we were on a show that was popularand on top.

This is jumping ahead of a few seasons, but I have to ask about the> classic Thanksgiving episode. When you first read that script, did you know> it was going to turn out as well as it did?

I didn’t know how it was gonna turn out, but I was so excited to be doing afood fight! We got to do that twice, because we did it in the dress rehearsaland during the taping. I’d never had a food fight in real life, and it was themost fun thing ever. I wanted to do it everyday! It was so cool to be able tothrow mashed potatoes and peas and s**t like that.

I’m sure I hit Shelley pretty hard, and I probably hit John, too. And we alleventually bombarded Jimmy Burroughs, who was not extremely excited aboutthat! [ Laughs ] It was after we were done with the fight, and I can’tremember if he had yelled, “Cut” or not. We all went over and smashed thingson him, but he had on a plastic raincoat thing.

You also played Carla ‘s sister, Annette , in one episode. Were thereplans to do more with her? It always reminded me of Lisa Kudrow playing bothPhoebe and Ursula on ** friends later on.**

Yeah, that was fun. I asked if I could do that, and they agreed. It was such adifferent character, so that was cool. And I had special teeth made forAnnette — I don’t even know if you can tell, but her teeth kind of stuck out alittle. I kind of wanted her to come back, but I had feeling she wasn’t gonna![ Laughs ]

you turned down ** The Tortellis , but other cast members did leavethe show over the years, most notably Shelley Long, who was replaced byKirstie Alley. Did you ever consider leaving?**

I had three kids during the show, and the fact that I could carry on thisamazing show and my life simultaneously was such a gift. They made it so easyfor us. Other people were having babies, too, so there were all these kidsaround us. It was something in the beer, I guess!

There were days where all the kids would come to set, but they wouldn’tintegrate into the show or anything. They would hang around the craft servicetable and the candy drawer. We had a great candy drawer! I had a little officedownstairs from the set where my kids could be. Kirstie is actuallyresponsible for getting everybody together outside of the show, because she’dhave these amazing parties — Halloween parties, Easter parties. Everyone wouldbring their kids, and she invited the crew as well. I always tried to imitatethat at my house, but I didn’t do it as well. She’s really good atentertaining people.

The show ended in Season 11 largely because Ted Danson decided he was readyto move onto other things. The producers considered continuing the showwithout him — did they ever talk to you and the rest of the cast about what aSam-less version of ** cheers might look like?**

Yeah, there were discussions, but we weren’t really consulted. I mean, maybewe were asked what we thought, but we all felt that without Ted it wouldn’t bea good way to go out. Maybe if it had happened earlier in the show, but Idoubt it. Ted was the heart of cheers — the cast was the heart of the bar,but he was the heart of all of us. It was better to go out on top. We allsmoked a cigar, and that was the end. The end of me, because I had neversmoked a cigar before! [ Laughs ]

**Carla begins the series complaining about her kids, and ends the seriestalking about how having kids is one of the most important things in life. That ‘s a nice full circle moment that the writers crafted for her. **

Oh wow, yeah. I actually didn’t remember that. Our writers were amazing. mysister, [screenwriter] Heidi Perlman, started on that show! She’s gone on towrite on many other shows, but none as famous as cheers. [ Laughs ]

Carla, Norm and Cliff all returned for an episode of ** Frasier a> few years after ** cheers finished. Was it fun to revisit the> character then?

Yeah, that was a good thing to do. I always wish that he had done a revivallike Will & Grace did a few years ago. A few years after the show ended, wewere all at some event together, and we said: “I think we can talk them intoit.” But it didn’t work; Jimmy and the Charles brothers never wanted to do it.I have no idea what their objection was, they just didn’t want to evenentertain the thought. That’s OK! They can do what they want.

But you would be in if they changed their minds on a revival?

If they were doing it, for sure I’d be in! I’d give anything to be with themall again.

**What ‘s Carla doing now? Do you think she’s running the bar or is she stillserving drinks? **

You know, she’s the kind of person that doesn’t move around, so she’s stillgonna be there serving drinks. She’s watching the grandkids — she’s probablygo great-grandchildren by now! And they all live with her in her one-bedroomhouse. You know, I don’t think she ever had enough money, so she had to workin the bar, but she was never going to own the bar. And she was also nevergoing to leave the bar for some fancy-schmancy Boston restaurant. She stays inone spot and is happy being queen of that spot. There’s no reason for her togo anywhere else. She met all the guys she wanted to and had all the kids shecould. I guess after menopause it would have been easier. Then she wouldn’thave had to have all the kids! [ Laughs ]

I like to imagine her having a food fight with her grandkids everythingThanksgiving.

Yes, but the grandkids would have to clean it up! I wasn’t gonna clean uptheir crap.

‘Bros’ star Billy Eichner defends the film’s raunchy sex scenes: ‘Let’s all calm down’

Brittle may not technically be Hollywood’s first gay love story — movieslike Making Love , Jeffrey and Fire Island all precede it — but it’sdefinitely Hollywood’s raunchiest gay love story. Co-written and starringcomedian Billy Eichner, the big-budget romantic comedy is overseen by producerJudd Apatow and co-writer/director Nicholas Stoller, who are no strangers toincluding R-rated sex scenes in R-rated rom-coms like The 40-Year-Old Virgin_and _Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In fact, that’s the kind of equal opportunityapproach Eichner hoped for when he signed on to work with the duo.

“At the end of the day, it’s a Judd Apatow movie and a Nick Stoller movie,” hetells Yahoo Entertainment. “Their movies have a long history of sex scenesthat are very physical and very funny. And I thought, ‘Well, why _shouldn ‘t_we have the same thing?'” (Watch our video interview above.)

In Brittle , Eichner plays unlucky in love podcast host/museum curatorBobbie Lieber, who falls in lust with strapping single guy Aaron (LukeMacfarlane). As the duo embark on a tentative romance, they also open up theirsex lives to include hot and heavy threesomes (and foursomes) as well ascasual Grindr hook-ups with other people. Capturing that aspect ofcontemporary LGBTQ life is something that was important for the film’s out gaystars, and sets Brittle apart from the typical Apatow/Stoller joint, wherethe central couple tends to be monogamous.

“What’s fun — especially for straight audiences — is that whole movie is athrowback to the elements of Apatow movies or romantic comedies that we love, but with this fresh, new and somewhat provocative perspective,” notes Eichner.”It’s not just your run-of-the-mill rom-com.”

Adds Macfarlane: “Sex doesn’t always have to be sentimental. Especially in alot of the queer movies that we’ve seen, sex is treated as a very sentimentalthing because it was so frightening to people for a long time. But now we canactually have fun with that.”

Story continues

Those scenes were also an education for Stoller, who cops to being a straightdirector helming a gay rom-com. “What’s funny to me is I approached it the wayI approached all the sex scenes I’ve shot,” he says. “My joke with Billy wasalways, ‘The only kind of sex scene I’d be uncomfortable shooting is a sexysex scene!’ I don’t know how to do the Adrian Lyne thing. But I didn’t reallyfeel like it was any different, weirdly. These are two characters with theirown foibles expressing themselves through sex in a funny, relatable way.”

naturally, Brittle ‘s central creative team knows that there’s a moreconservative audience out there who won’t find the sex scenes funny orrelatable. The film is already getting review bombed on IMDB by homophobicviewers, many of whom haven’t even seen the movie, leading Eichner toresponded on social media.

Asked how he feels about the possibility that internet trolls might claim thathe’s “corrupting” America’s youth, Eichner says that ship has long sincesailed. “The youth has already been corrupted! We lost that battle. They’re onsocial media, and they’ve been watching porn since they had a phone in theirhand. Brittle is literally like a Hallmark movie compared to what kids arewatching on their phones, so let’s all calm down.”

Stoller, meanwhile, thinks that those trolls who actually take the time towatch Brittle may come out with their attitudes changed. “You can feel theaudience falling in love with Luke and Billy as the movie goes on,” he notes.”The great thing about comedy is when you’re laughing at something, you’rerelating to it and it’s humanizing. That’s not why I set out to make themovie, but it’s hopefully a side benefit.”

Just as Brittle represents a breakthrough for gay storytelling at the majorstudio level, Eichner recognizes that the community he’s a part of is far morediverse than the white couple at the heart of the film. To that end, thesupporting cast is filled with performers who represent the broader spectrumof LGBTQ life, including former Glee star, Dot-Marie Jones, trans actors EveLindley and Ts Madison and gender non-conforming reality show scene-stealer,Miss Lawrence. Jones and Lindley both credit Glee with being one of thefirst mainstream entertainments to expose audiences to the different colorsthat make up the famous gay pride rainbow flag.

“I am a product of Glee ,” says Lindley, adding that next barrier Hollywoodcan break after Brittle is a rom-com starring two trans lovers. “I wouldlove to see that, and I think we are ready.” For her part, Jones thinks thatboth Glee and Brittle share the same desire for accurate representation. “Brittle brought us together,” she says. “It’s something I honestly neverthought I’d see, and working with these amazing people was the most fun thingever.”

Like Lindley, Miss Lawrence sees a future in which different groups get theirturn in the spotlight. “This is the first time we get to explore a gay lovestory in depth, but it won’t stop there. There will and there should be filmsthat show what it looks like to be a trans person in love, to be a gender non-conforming person in love, to be a non-binary person in love. Every type oflove story has been told with our straight counterparts, and I want to seethat same energy when it comes to LGBTQIA people in this art form.”

Speaking of love stories, Brittle can’t resist lobbing gags in the directionof one of Hollywood’s most famous gay romances: Brokeback Mountain Ang Lee’s2005 Oscar-winning drama starring straight actors, Heath Ledger and JakeGyllenhaal, as doomed lovers. At one point in the movie, Bobbie and Aaron goon a date to see a Brokeback -type tragedy and come out of the theatercriticizing it as slow and boring. Eichner and Stoller are quick to say thatthe characters’ review doesn’t represent their own feelings about Lee’s film.

Brokeback Mountain is a masterpiece,” Eichner raves. “It moved me totears. No one is arguing how beautiful Heath Ledger’s performance is in thatmovie.” [ Ledger died in 2008.] “I love that movie,” Stoller chimes in. “Ihear the score and I start crying.”

that said, Brokeback Mountain is also the poster child for the kind oftragic gay romance — one made by a largely straight cast and crew — thatHollywood has too often favored telling at the expense of other stories.”We’ve watched Brokeback Mountain and we’ve seen it turn out to be atragedy,” says Madison. “Now we have Brittle that shows that there is hope —that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

Eichner made a point of following that light as he crafted Brittle for thebig screen. “Historically, on the rare occasions where Hollywood did centerLGBTQ characters, it was always about suffering,” he notes. “We’re sotortured, we’re dying, we’re getting killed! It was so, so sad and always toldthrough the perspective of straight filmmakers and straight movie stars. With_Brittle_ , we’re saying: ‘Hey, can’t there be a comedy about our lives?’ Ijust want more movies like this. I think it’s cool that we’re finally gettingto tell our own stories and not having them told for us.”

Woman Holle returns to the Efteling and Ella (88) is very happy with it

Good news for all Efteling fans. After three years, the oldest building in thepark has been rebuilt and with it the resident returns: Vrouw Holle. Extraspecial for designer Robert-Jaap Jansen and his 88-year-old mother Ella, whoonce modeled for the snow lady.

It was a bit of a swallow for many enthusiasts, when the iconic, but outdatedhouse was demolished at the end of 2019 for safety reasons. After all, thatwas already there around 1940, years before the Efteling existed. It wasoriginally built as a wooden log cabin for the scouting scouts. Later, afamily even lived there, who could no longer stay in their own destroyed housedue to war bombing.

When the Well of Vrouw Holle was added to the Fairytale Forest in 1952, theadjacent house was also given a makeover by Anton Pieck. After that it was, among other things, a souvenir shop and a fairytale museum, but it was notuntil 2006 that it actually became the house of Vrouw Holle.

All this thanks to designer Robert-Jaap Jansen, who got the idea during a walkthrough the Fairytale Forest. “How funny would it be if Mrs. Holle appearedevery so often in that nice little house to really make it snow?”

“Then came the question if anyone knew a nice Woman Holle.”

The management of Efteling also agreed with this plan. “The nice thing wasthat there was a beautiful drawing by Anton Pieck in the archive, on whichVrouw Holle shakes out a pillow.”

A nice starting point, but to bring the fairy tale to life, something extrawas needed. “Someone had to model so we could see how the doll had to move. Then the question came if anyone knew a nice Woman Holle. Well, I couldsometimes poll my mother.”

On the left the sketch by Anton Pieck, on the right Ella Jansen as amodel.

Mother Ella herself didn’t hesitate for a second: “I’m up for all kinds ofcrazy things.” She remembers everything about that day in the park. “I had toput on a long dress and a big hat. Well, that was sweltering hot.” Robert-Jaaplaughing: “We let her walk up and down again and again. There is a photo, where she is completely exhausted.”

Still, it was all worth it, according to the proud son. “At one point shejokingly said, ‘Shall I make it snow?’ That turned out to be so nice that westill use that phrase in the fairy tale.”

Since then, Ella feels forever connected to Lady Holle. “When we come to thepark, I always go and see her. The story may not be as well known as LittleRed Riding Hood or the Wolf and the Seven Goats, but for me it is extraspecial.”

In fact, Ella is a bit like Vrouw Holle these days. “In the nursing home whereI live, people think that’s my real name. For many people I’m one and thesame.” Still, there’s one question that Ella hasn’t solved after all theseyears. “I always think: don’t those kids ever wonder where Mr. Holle is?”

“I also see it as a tribute to my mother.”

After almost three years, Ella’s favorite fairytale character is now back inher place. Although the reconstruction of the house was not a matter ofstacking some stones and putting a roof on it.

“Before demolition, the house was scanned to the millimeter with lasers,” saysRobert-Jaap. “That was used as a new building plan. It looks exactly the sameand some parts have even been reused. It’s honestly as if it never went away.”

Fortunately, because the designer himself also has a special and emotionalbond with the house. “I also see it as a tribute to my mother. Hopefully itwill now be back for eternity.”

Wanted: 1960s teenage star Lola for a concert

Who oh who knows where the teenage star Lola from Breda has gone? That is thepressing question that music lover Germaine Rook has. Germaine wants to getforgotten teen idols from the fifties, sixties and seventies back on stage fora concert. To find singer Lola, she even hired a private detective.Unfortunately still without result and so she hopes for the golden tip.

“Lola was a cute teenage singer who generally sang Dutch songs,” says GermaineRook. “Her biggest hit was ‘Lente in September’ from 1968. That was not piratemusic, but quality. She could also sing really well and was even allowed to goto a song festival in Knokke with Ben Cramer and Sandra Reemer as a reserve.have not really broken through, but her single on vinyl is now sold for 1600euros.”

Waiting for privacy settings…

“Lola intrigues me,” continues the 25-year-old. “That beautiful voice and hermysterious character. And she was really a sight to see. Call it a penchantfor nostalgia, but for me Lola is the ultimate artist of a genre that is indanger of being lost. Although as a singer she is also a She made the album inEnglish, she mainly sang the better Dutch song.”

Germaine is now looking for Lola with three friends. The foursome previouslyalso tracked down other forgotten singers. For example, they came into contactwith the musical quartet Atlantic from Geldrop, Trio’67 from Bergen op Zoom, the Rianta’s from Waalwijk and The Young Sisters from Breda. “The real topperscome from Brabant,” says Germaine Rook. “They did something really goodthere.”

“A detective agency has found out that she comes from Breda.”

The ultimate dream of the group is to get the teenage stars of the past backon stage. On 3 June there will be a concert in Sint Jansklooster, under thetitle ‘The forgotten black gold’, referring to the black singles made ofvinyl.

Germaine hopes Lola will be there too. If she’s still alive, that is, becausethe search is difficult and the information is rather meager. Still hoping forthe golden tip. “A detective agency has found out that she comes from Bredaand has a Spanish mother,” says Rook about what is known. “Her real name wasMarie del Rosario. But because it sounded too Spanish, her stage name becameLola.”

“We hope that people will come up with the golden tip.”

“The area where we have to search is quite large,” she continues. “We know, for example, that Lola worked in the circus in Ghent and also traveled throughGermany with her parents. But the starting point is and remains Breda. Mostpeople must still be there who know her. We very much hope for the golden tip.would be fantastic.”

So not much is known about Lola. That would have been different if she hadreally broken through in those sixties or seventies. “She was part of theelite club with Ben Cramer, Sandra Reemer and Floortje Klomp. But they saythey don’t know her either. The fact that she has not become nationally knowncan have all kinds of reasons. You had to be lucky, because the recordcompanies and the media was quite corrupt. Too bad, because she had thequalities.”
