Her actor husband Greg Wise, on the other hand, would prefer to avoid yuletidecheer altogether: “He’d rather go away somewhere else,” Thompson jokes. “Acave, basically. Undecorated.”

Christmas with the Meiland family causes negative reactions from viewers

While the Meiland family could do nothing wrong for a while, the tide seems tohave turned in recent weeks. Martien’s ‘wat góóééd’ or ‘wines, wines, wines’was printed on mugs, diaries, wine glasses, you name it. But to the family’sChristmas special ( Christmas with the Meiland family ), which was shown onTV last night, was remarkably few people watching. Especially if you compareit to the heyday, in which around a million people often tuned in ChateauMeiland.

Yesterday’s Christmas special, Christmas with the Meiland family , attractedsome 627,000 viewers. For comparison: the All You Need Is Love Christmasspecial (which showed a lot of love, but viewers were also somewhatdisappointed), attracted 2 million viewers.

Christmas with the Meiland family

The Meiland family leaves our country for the Christmas special. It is thefourth edition of the special and the now 7-member family opted for a cruisethrough the Mediterranean. But when that trip was on TV yesterday, one thingviewers noticed anyway: the ship was quite empty. Normally a cruise ship iscompletely crammed with holidaying Dutch people, Germans, Americans, you nameit. But now it almost seemed as if the Meilandjes were alone.

Below you can see a piece of the Christmas special:

On the boat we see the fam busy, for example in a restaurant. The cook cooksin front of them and occasionally throws snacks into Martien’s mouth. Thatdoesn’t go very well, after which screams and loud laughter follow. They alsooccasionally leave the ship at various destinations, and a jeep safari hasbeen arranged for them, for example. And guess what? Especially a lot ofscreaming.

But there are of course also plenty of Christmas markets in the area aroundthe Mediterranean Sea, so they are also visited. And relaxing a bit, that’swhat the Meiland family is ready for. The past year was quite busy (andemotional), for example with relocations, a wedding (viewers were amazed atMartien’s outfit) and the death of grandmother Jenny.

Viewers about Christmas special: ‘On their return’

Despite the fact that the Meilandjes do their best to give viewers a niceChristmas special, they cannot really charm them. You can often find negativereactions on social media – although there are of course always the loyalMeiland fans who love everything they do. But after this special, peoplemainly express their irritations. The family would be too loud, too spoiledand ‘on their way’.

What viewers thought:

Turn on just after the commercial, wow that’s super boring, watch those> jeeps! I was always a fan but now I’m going to zap!> #christmaswiththefamilymeiland> #meiland>> — Loes 🌱 (@loesje60) December 24,> 2022

The Meiland family really is one of those people that really annoys me in a> restaurant. So terribly present with that shouting and screaming.> #ChateauMeiland>> — M (@nondeju) December 24,> 2022

‘Christmas at home, with games’

This Christmas special was of course not live, but recorded much earlier, youunderstand that. With the ‘real Christmas’, now, the Meilandjes are mainly athome. That is what Erica and Martien Meiland say to the press agency AP.They have invited friends and family to their home in Noordwijk.

Erica and Martien are not going to be in the kitchen themselves during theholidays. “We did that last year and the year before. So we are doing thatagain this year.” Martien “doesn’t really care” about what’s on the menu. “Aslong as it’s fun.”

The most famous Spanish Christmas songs

“Feliz Navidad” who doesn ‘t know this song by José Feliciano. This isprobably the most famous Spanish Christmas carol of all time, but there aremore such Spanish songs, known and less known. We’ve listed a few so you don’tjust have to listen to Wham, Band Aid, Mariah Carey, Paul McCartney, RenéFroger and Chris Rea. Do you already know these songs?

Jose Feliciano – Feliz Navidad

Ok, he’s not Spaniard, but he deserves first place with his ultimate SpanishChristmas song “Feliz Navidad”. José Feliciano is a Puerto Rican singer andblind since birth, but something that did not stop him from playing theguitar. Although the singer has had many international hits, his 1971 song“Feliz Navidad” is the most famous of them all.

Raphael-El Tamborilero

Raphael is a Spanish singer who actually has Rafael Martos Sánchez as a name, but uses Raphael as a stage name because it sounds more international. In 1965Raphael participated as the Spanish representative in the Eurovision SongContest with his song “Yo soy aquel”. The year before in 1965 he recorded aSpanish version of the well-known English Christmas carol “The little drummerboy” entitled “El pequeño tamborilero”.

Mecano – Un año más

Mecano was a Spanish band formed in 1980 with singer Ana Torroja and the twobrothers Nacho Cano and José-Maria Cano. The biggest hit that has also becomeinternationally known was “Hijo de la luna”, but the 1988 Christmas song “Unaño más” is a classic in Spain.

Gloria Estefan – Mas allá (Navidad)

Gloria Estefan is of course world famous as a Cuban-American singer and hadmany hits, including perhaps the most famous “Conga”. Besides songs inEnglish, she has also recorded several albums in Spanish. These songs have aLatin American rhythm and are often completely different from the Englishsongs. One of these songs is “Más allá”, a typical Christmas carol aboutpeace, family and happiness.

Manolo Escobar–Rin Rin

Manuel Garcia Escobar is better known as singer Manolo Escobar (not to beconfused with the drug lord of course). In addition to well-known songs suchas “Y viva Espana”, “Mi carro”, and “Porompompero”, he has also sung variousChristmas songs, the most famous of which is undoubtedly “Rin Rin”, aChristmas song in a copla Andalusia style, olé!

Los del Rio – Macarena (Christmas version)

Who doesn’t know this song with the accompanying dance steps? “Macarena” is asong that is brought out every few years. This singing duo from Andalusia hasalready had many hits in Spain, but actually only became world famous after1993 when they released the hit “Macarena”. This was remixed in 1996 in amodern version and history was written. The whole world danced the Macarenadance and so a Christmas version was also released. Let’s dance!

Serrat & Sabina – Cancion de Navidad

One of the most recent Spanish Christmas songs comes from singers Joan ManuelSerrat and Joaquin Sabina. This duo has sung many hits together, including“Cancion de Navidad”, recorded in 2011.

Gipsy Kings – Los peces en el rio

Olé Olé here we go with the everywhere known Gipsy Kings. Of course everyoneknows the classics “Bamboléo” or “Djobi Djoba” and “Volare”, but theFrench/Spanish guitar band has also recorded a Christmas song. “Los peces enel rio” starts slowly, but then continues in the typical Gipsy Kings style, acombination of rumba catalana and Spanish flamenco. So nice swing. By the way,the Gipsy Kings have great relaxed guitar music for those who didn’t know thatyet.

So, turn the volume up to 10 on the above videos and enjoy a Spanish Christmas

Review Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery [Netflix]

$468 million. Netflix paid this huge amount to buy the rights to two sequels_Knives Out_. It only made the piggy bank of protagonist Daniel Craig fuller, but it mainly ensured that the streaming service got a blockbuster that couldbe unpacked. So it’s no surprise that the first of these films will bereleased worldwide just before Christmas Eve.

The concept of Knives Out was simple: a detective story in the mosttraditional sense of the word, reminiscent of the Agatha Christie films of the1970s, with an omniscient sleuth at the helm, played by the man who gave JamesBond the necessary balls. It was a magic formula that worked more than fine in2019. You would expect writer-director Rian Johnson to make it easy on himselfby ruminating everything nicely, but that turns out not to be the case,

In fact, the only similarity between Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery andits predecessor is that both films revolve around Benoit Blanc, the bestsleuth in the world. The tranquility of Knives Out makes in _Glass Onions_room for a bombastic and noisy approach, which in terms of direction isreminiscent of Guy Ritchie’s hypernervous style. For some it will work, forothers it could turn out to be a disappointment.

Following up on The Menu and Triangle of Sadness gives Glass Onions akick in the butt of the very rich. Where Knives Out punched Donald Trump andhis staunch supporters in the stomach, here it is the rich snobs who arepilloried. And you can be pretty sure that Johnson wants to put Elon Musk inhis shirt with this blow from the pan.

Miles Bron, played just a little too routinely by Edward Norton, is abillionaire who can afford anything thanks to his inventions and is only toohappy to show it off. To illustrate: because the French government can nolonger handle the debt mountain of the corona pandemic, this boaster evenmanages to get his hands on the Mona Lisa. Corona is discussed more than onceand that is a shame, because by putting on a face mask at the beginning of thefilm, you make the film dated in advance.

Every year, Bron invites his best friends to an extravagant party. In pureCluedo style, the industrialist chooses to solve a murder mystery. That is ofcourse tying the cat to the bacon, because the game becomes raw reality in aquip. Among the invitees, even though the man was not on the list, is BenoitBlanc.

Who is a fan of Knives Out and that must be just about the whole world, would do well not to compare the two films. Glass Onions has a much moreexuberant approach than its predecessor. You notice that not only in the wayof directing, but also in the acting of Craig, who just doesn’t make acaricature of his character. The fact that he doesn’t go public proves onceagain what a great actor he is and that there is still a life for him afterhis 007 career.

Craig is therefore the star who makes the rest of the cast smell a shit andthat is the biggest problem of this sequel. Dave Bautista is fun, EdwardNorton can confidently apply for a James Bond villain, and this mysterythriller features the funniest cameo of the year, but the characters aren’tnearly as fun as last time. So no women who puke when they lie, but characterswhose lives revolve around hits on social media.

Another downside is that Rian Johnson demands a lot from his viewer. Althoughthe plot is predictable, this is still a film where you have to keep an eyeout all the way through. The denouements are all a bit too obvious, but youcan put that problem in the shoes of any detective. After all, they noticethings that mere mortals ignore.

But enough whining, Glass Onions may not have become the blockbuster thatknocks its competitors down, but it is a nice game of entertainment from adirector who mainly wanted to have fun. So don’t ask too many questions, justwatch. Before you know it you’ve already had two fun hours.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery can be seen on Netflix.

You really shouldn’t have missed these films this year | Movies & Series

From packed cinema halls to snow-covered gems: hundreds of films appearedagain in 2022. What were the biggest hypes? Which titles received the mostimportant awards? And which films have received too little attention? NU.nllists six titles.

Biggest hypes: Top Gun and Avatar 2

Tom Cruise should have returned in June 2020 as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, thejet fighter pilot with nerves of steel from Top Gun (1986). The release waspostponed five times, until the action film could finally premiere lastsummer.

A romantic storyline can still be found in Top Gun: Maverick , but blood-curdling action clearly predominates. Director John Krasinski (known as Jim in_The Office US_ ) worked with a camera system of six imax cameras peraircraft, which allowed aerial antics and chases to be filmed from differentangles. This ultimately resulted in worldwide revenue of 1.4 billion dollars(1.32 billion euros).

Avatar: The Way of Water set even higher. Director James Cameron threw inmoney for his sequel, a three-hour spectacle that uses the latest filmtechniques. The cinema halls are now filling up, but the question is stillwhether that will be enough. Other great films, such as the sequels to DoctorStrange and Black Panther at least had a better opening weekend.

The sequel to avatar was so expensive to make that the question is whetherCameron will make any money at all. In his own words, his fantasy film mustbecome one of the highest-earning films ever to cover the costs.

Top prizes: Triangle of Sadness and CODA

For many filmmakers, the Palme d’Or is the highest achievable. It is rare fora director to win that prize a second time, but Ruben Östlund did. The Swedepreviously received the statuette for The Square this year before Triangleof Sadness. The film is set on a luxury cruise. Differences between rich andpoor are not only exaggerated, but also turned upside down by a series ofabsurd plot twists. Triangle of Sadness recently won four European FilmAwards and is currently in theaters.

Major awards were also handed out in Hollywood. The coming-of-age drama CODA- _about a singing talent who wants to free herself from her deaf parents andlittle brother – became the first streaming title ever to win an Oscar forbest picture. Director Sian Heder based himself on the French film _The Belierfamily. The main difference being that she cast deaf actors. Under the radar: Water Gate Bridge and Flee

The ten highest-earning films of 2022 all built on previous success. But oneof them you probably won’t recognize very quickly. The Chinese war film WaterGate Bridge The sequel to The Battle at Lake Changjin , appeared almostexclusively in Asian countries. Still, the proceeds were more than $ 600million, and that is more than the sequels Fantastic Beasts and Sonic theHedgehog.

For the Danish Flee hardly any visitors could be found, while the animationdocumentary was showered with awards worldwide. Filmmaker Jonas PoherRasmussen interviewed a childhood friend who fled from Afghanistan to Denmarkat a young age. This resulted in a therapeutic conversation, full ofunprocessed memories, with which the anonymous Amin took the step towards anew life. Flee was nominated for three Oscars and awarded the European FilmAward for best documentary and best animated film.

1.8 million viewers see Buddy Vedder ashamed after revelation in The Masked Singer: ‘How embarrassing’ | show

Spoiler alertNot one, not two, not three, but four of them _The Masked Singer_had to reveal their true identities last night in the Christmas special of theRTL program. The curtain fell on the frog, the queen bee, the panda and theelephant. The exposure of the latter caused shame for Buddy Vedder, saw morethan 1.8 million viewers. “How embarrassing of me. I really want to disappearhere.”

Christmas trees, oliebollen, thousands of lights, Christmas duets and festiveoutfits: there was no escaping Christmas in the new episode of The MaskedSinger. Unlike previous weeks, not one mysterious celebrity flew out of theshow, but no fewer than four people had to leave the battlefield.

The knight and the tiger bit off. They sang the song together Merry XmasEverybody from Slade __ and made it a real party. The jury did not miss thateither. Nevertheless, the audience in the room decided that a place in thefinal was for the tiger. And so the adventure ended for the frog. The panel, consisting of Carlo Boszhard, Loretta Schrijver, Gerard Joling and BuddyVedder, agreed unanimously: Wolter Kroes had to be hidden in the frog suit. The tension built up, but guess what? The jury had guessed correctly for thethird week in a row. “Yes,” they exclaimed in unison when it became clear thatthey were right.

Shame

It wasn’t over for the panel after the initial reveal. It was up to theelephant and the flamingo to compete for a place in the final. They performeda rendition of Underneath the christmas tree by Kelly Clarkson. Boszhard,Joling, Vedder and Schrijver meanwhile were guessing: could Hans Klok behidden in the elephant suit? And who would that flamingo be? Questions aboutthe flamingo went unanswered, because the public believed that the elephantshould leave the battlefield.

It was Gerard Joling who got a hunch and thought he was sure it was actorEveron Hooi. That in contrast to Vedder, Boszhard and Schrijver. Theymentioned, among others, Juvat Westendorp and Martijn Krabbé. To the surpriseof the panel, Joling turned out to be on the right track. A shame for Vedder, because he had not recognized his ‘dressing room buddy’. “Really, howembarrassing of me. I actually want to disappear here”, Vedder confessed tohis ‘ roomie ‘.

The third performance was given by the queen bee and the joker. They sang_Last Christmas_ from Wham. What the panel immediately noticed: there was noquestion of a competition here; the chemistry between the two just splashedoff the stage. And as nice as the duet was, the adventure ended for the queenbee. The panel was convinced that it must be Berget Lewis and that turned outto be correct.

Lewis suggested her participation The Masked Singer find ‘great’. “I thoughtit was one of the most fun programs I’ve ever done,” she exulted once sherevealed herself.

Vocal violence

The penguin and the panda, stretched out on a piano, closed the show with ajazz version of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Buddy Vedder already threw aball: according to him, Angela Schijf would be in the suit of the panda.Meanwhile, the panel thoroughly enjoyed the performance. That was made clearagain afterwards. “You don’t want violence at Christmas, but vocal violence ismore than welcome. You guys are incredibly good”, Vedder complimented the twomysterious ladies.

No matter how ‘Broadway-worthy’ the performance of the two was; according toBoszhard, both the penguin and the panda had not given themselves one hundredpercent all this time. “So these are two people who are completely in thebusiness,” he concluded.

Boszhard will have to wait and see whether that conclusion is justified, because the final place went to the penguin. That meant the panda had to gohome, but not before the panel could guess who the mysterious celebrity was.Joling and Vedder went for Angela Schijf, Schrijver bet on Birgit Schuurmanand Boszhard mentioned musical star Vajèn van den Bosch. So it could go eitherway.

It was Schrijver who finally managed to solve the puzzle, because BirgitSchuurman was indeed hidden in the panda suit. ,,You are right”, Boszhardyelled. Schuurman smiled broadly and looked back smugly on her adventure. “Ireally enjoyed doing it. Super exciting all the time too, keeping that asecret and then hearing you talk and guess who it could be.”
