Everyone falls silent when Andrea Bocelli invites his daughter on stage

Music is great and must be experienced live.

There ‘s something special about being near that magical moment when a starsings your favorite songs, just meters in front of you.

Opera star Andrea Bocelli has been giving us shivers and goose bumps foryears with his voice.

And it seems the apple doesn ‘t fall far from the tree.

From time to time, his beloved daughter Virginia also appeared at her father’s side and sang a duet, much to everyone’s delight.

When father and daughter performed the classic “Hallelujah”, no one was leftunmoved.

Nothing beats the magical power of music.

It’s there through thick and thin, like a dear old friend guiding you throughlife’s many paths.

I’m certainly not the only one who returns to my favorite songs and artistsfrom time to time, with as much enthusiasm as the first time you heard thenotes.

They struck a chord with me that will stay with me all my life and will neverfade.

Big strong voices that endure through time and space still give me goosebumps, despite hearing the artists’ songs over and over again.

One person who always knows how to make me smile a little extra is opera starAndrea Bocelli.

He has a way of expressing himself that is rare and gives me goosebumps everytime.

There is something about him that makes me feel uplifted and strong.

So when I heard that his musical talent has also been passed on to hisdaughter, I was immediately intrigued.

Andrea Bocelli presents his daughter

Virginia Boccelli may only be 10 years old, but when it comes to talent, it’shard to believe she’s actually that young.

She has a certain certainty in her voice that you can really believe it’s fromsomeone much older.

And of course, her incredible talent was also picked up by her father.

From time to time, father and daughter have performed together and createdmagic together.

One such occasion was when Andrea invited her little girl on stage to sing aclassic.

He begins by sitting alone in a chair on stage when he announces that he willbe inviting someone very special: his beloved daughter Virginia.

The girl moves confidently on stage and greets her father warmly before theytune in to the classic “Hallelujah” together.

Virginia first speaks in English before Papa Andrea fills in in Italian.

The duet is absolutely magical and it’s hard to hold back the tears.

It’s a moment I want to enjoy every second of it.

The father-daughter duet merges into a magical harmony, with Andrea andVirginia’s voices working together to create something incredible.

They are made to be on big stages together – strong, invincible and together.

I can watch this video over and over. An incredible moment that we get to bepart of and when art is created right in front of our eyes.

Bennett said “The Holiday Sitter” has all the elements of a classic Christmasmovie.

“We never set out to make a gay movie or a queer rom com,” he said. “We setout to make a really good romantic comedy that’s centered around Christmas. It’s centered around love and family and is a classic fish out of water story, which I love. The only difference is both the leads are men.”

Bennett married Jaymes Vaughan, 39, in March and said the life they’ve createdis not different from what other people create with their families.

“There’s no such thing as a traditional family,” Bennett said. “Your family iswho you choose. As a queer person, a lot of us grow up with a different ideaof what family is for may reasons, whether it’s acceptance or whether it’sjust the idea that our families are different, but they’re not.”

Brendan Fraser says that his kids inspired his transformative performance in ‘The Whale’

Back in the ’90s, Brendan Fraser starred in a bunch of very famous movies, from School Ties __ to The Mummy. Even though he had the chiseled physiqueof an action hero, there was always something about the Indianapolis-bornactor that set him apart from other leading men of that era. It was all in theeyes: Fraser’s expressive gaze carried a level of vulnerability thatencouraged audiences to root for him to escape from the most perilouscircumstances, be it boarding school prejudice or centuries-old monsters.

That vulnerability takes on a new form The Whale , the Darren Aronofsky-helmed drama that’s been attracting acclaim and controversy since it premieredat the Venice Film Festival in September. Based on the play by Samuel D.Hunter, the movie casts Fraser as a 600-pound English teacher named Charlie, whose world has shrunk to the size of the dingy apartment where he’s literallyeating himself to death. It’s one of the most challenging performances of hiscareer, and the actor tells Yahoo Entertainment that it took most of hisinspiration from a very personal source.

“A lot of it had to do with the love that I feel for my kids,” he reveals, referring to the three sons he shares with ex-wife, Afton Smith: Griffin,Holden and Leland. (In 2018, Fraser revealed that Leland, 16, is on the autismspectrum.)

Watch our interview with the cast of The Whale ** on YouTube**

Fraser wears extensive body and facial prosthetics for his role in The> Whale , and while those additions transform his physical appearance, they> also draw renewed attention to the emotive eyes that powered his vintage> grunge-decade performances. “He has such an innocence and beautiful charm in> those ’90s films,” agrees Aronofsky, who admits in a separate interview that> he hadn’t even seen School Ties until after collaborating with Fraser on> The Whale. “And here, he’s doing much more complicated character work.> It’s very moving to me.”

For better and for worse, much of the pre-release publicity around _The Whale_has focused on Fraser’s transformed appearance. Not coincidentally, thatreflects the way that Charlie himself is viewed by others in the film, and theactor is intensely aware of how audiences may be quick to judge his characterby his size. “Charlie is not the person he presents,” Fraser says intently.”He’s not the person who we so often dismiss. He’s a man who lives withobesity, but he’s also a father and he’s also a teacher. He’s someone who canbring out the best in others even when they can’t see that in themselvesTragically, he can’t do that for himself.”

“It’s well-rounded character,” Fraser continues. “The empathy that I think weall felt shooting this movie and telling Sam Hunter’s story is somethingthat’s intensely personal to all of us.”

Despite Fraser’s sentiments, The Whale has already divided critics andaudiences, with one camp calling the movie’s portrayal of Charlie’s duty”wrenching,” and the other describing it as “abhorrent.” Many of itsdetractors also accuse Aronofsky of trafficking in “fatphobia” in the way itpresents a person affected by obesity. It’s a debate the director insists hedidn’t see coming when he first cast Fraser in the part.

“Actors have been using makeup since the beginning of acting — that’s one oftheir tools,” Aronofsky says. “And the lengths we went to to portray therealism of the make-up has never been done before. One of my first calls aftercasting Brendan was to my makeup artist, Adrien Morot. I asked him, ‘Can we dosomething that’s realistic ?’ Because if it’s going to look like a joke, thenwe shouldn’t do it.”

“People with obesity are generally written as bad guys or as punchlines,”Aronofsky continues. “We wanted to create a fully worked-out character who hasbad parts about him and good parts about him; Charlie is very selfish, buthe’s also full of love and is seeking forgiveness. So [the controversy] makesno sense to me. Brendan Fraser is the right actor to play this role, and thefilm is an exercise in empathy.”

Watch a clip from The Whale ** below**

In the film, it’s revealed that the roots of Charlie’s self-destructive habitstrace back to the passing of his lover, Andy, who starved himself to death. That’s when he retreated from the world — including his ex-wife, Mary(Samantha Morton) and their angry teen daughter, Ellie (Sadie Sink) — andstarted down the path to his current state. As with many of Aronofsky’smovies, there’s a distinctly spiritual dimension to it The Whale andCharlie’s actions could be read as atoning for his perceived sin of lettingAndy die by becoming his own scapegoat as per Jewish tradition in the Torah.

“I hadn’t thought of it that way, but I think that’s beautiful,” the directorsays when this interpretation of the movie’s Biblical themes is offered tohim. “One of the great things about Sam’s play is that it’s so layered, andthere’s always more meaning to it. I think the film is very grounded and real, but a lot of the ideas and emotions push towards a love that’s very pure andsimple And that’s something you can relate to the word ‘spiritual,’ but it’salso coming from an emotional place. I would say that’s something for eachviewer to decide for themselves.”

One of Charlie’s few remaining connections to the outside world is Andy’ssister, Liz (Hong Chau), a nurse who serves as his unwilling accomplice in hisown destruction. Chau says that Liz’s desire to take care of Charlier impactedher own real-life relationship with Fraser on set. “I did find myselfnaturally wanting to take care of Brendan,” she says, smiling. “You know, justmaking sure that his water bottle was somewhere close by so he could stayhydrated. Listen, I don’t know how anybody could talk to Brendan Fraser forfive minutes and not wanna hug him! He’s just a lovable human being .”

Sink, meanwhile, had the unenviable task of having to be mean to Fraser dayafter day on set. When Ellie re-enters Charlie’s life, she makes it clearshe’s not willing to let her father off the hook for abandoning her, no matterthe state he’s in. Asked whether she sometimes felt like she had to apologizeto her co-star after delivering one of Ellie’s vicious put-downs, the_Stranger Things_ star looks over at him and laughs.

“Deep down, yes, I think I did,” Sinks says. “But just thinking about it fromEllie’s perspective, Charlie’s really challenging her because it’s the firsttime she’s really like met her match in a sense. She could tell him anythingand he’s seemingly unaffected by it — he even sees it as honest or smart. Idon’t think she’s ever faced someone who can like really see through thisarmor that she’s done a really impressive job of crafting. But those wordsweren’t Sadie’s though! Not at all.”

Fraser has clearly forgiven Sink for any and all teenage snark. “Sadie’s Elliehas a focused, beautiful rage,” he raves of his co-star’s performance. “She’sright to fell the way she does, and she appropriately advocates for herself. But Sadie also never fell into the trappings of an angsty teenager. Shebrought a focus to this performance that, when I watch it, I find somethingnew every time .”

“And Hong has an ability that is uncanny,” Fraser continues, keeping thecompliments flowing. “If you could put it in a bottle, you’d be a billionaire. She could say more in the pauses and the silences … than when she’s speaking.Darren likes to shoot a lot of takes, and he’d say to Hong, “Well, we’re hereanyway. What else you got? Show off for us.” And she would! I was there for itevery single time for what she brought.”

Sleepers with/by Robert de Hoog

The Netherlands has – from now on on Videoland – another tough action andcrime series: sleepers. Why are ‘we’ suddenly so good at making productionslike the new title mentioned and earlier too Macro Mafia , Under cover and_The Golden Hour_? Subway said creator, creative producer and protagonistRobert de Hoog and his friend and opponent Teun Kuilboer.

Tuesday, late afternoon. In the darkness of the Lab111 building in Amsterdam-West, the words pathological anatomical laboratory can still be read above thedoor. Lab111 is now a vibrant creative and cultural center, but onceapparently a place where a lot of corpses have been cut. A bit lurid, butappropriate for the interview setting of the six-part series sleepers.Inside it is much more pleasant. For example, actor Robert de Hoog and PR ladyfrom RTL and Videoland Eileen are watching the Morocco – Spain World Cupmatch. Like De Hoog at Subway slides in, the tablet with the live footballremains upright on the table.

Sleepers: underworld agents and informers

Not that Robert de Hoog ‘isn’t there’, on the contrary. sleepers is histhing as creator and creative boss of the Videoland production, with the helpof a large number of well-known actors and also co-screenwriter Simon de Waal. The latter works for the police in Amsterdam, but above all a big name when itcomes to writing crime. Just think about it Baantjer and The Golden Hour.

De Hoog could make good use of that. sleepers tells the tough story of thecorrupt cop Martin Oudkerk (Robert de Hoog himself), who maneuvers between theunderworld of Utrecht and the upper world of the criminal investigationdepartment. His surrogate father (Hans Kesting) is one of the last remainingcriminals of ‘the old penoze’. The man who is immediately killed by ‘the newguard’ in the series has sent people to the police academy since the beginningof this century to pass on information to his criminal organization. Martin isone of them.

While his best friend Willem (Teun Kuilboer) and newcomer Dwight (JulmarSimons, aka rapper Adje) increasingly draw Martin to the underworld, Martinhas to keep a mask on his wife Noura (Maryam Hassouni). Noura, mother ofMartin’s son, is herself a skilled detective in internal affairs of theUtrecht police. She therefore investigates culpable behavior of her ownpeople… In sleepers we also see, among others, Hans Dagelet, Nazmiye Oral,Gijs Scholten van Aschat, Rifka Lodeizen and Dilan Yurdakul.

Robert de Hoog has been working with Sleepers for four years

sleepers has become a series that I am proud of”, says Robert de Hoogstraight to the point. “I realized today that I started it exactly four yearsago. And now it all comes true. I am very happy that the world can finally seeit.” De Hoog (34) has a resume to say to you (of the series Macro Mafia ,Red Light and Soof: a new beginning to the movies Homies and Bantam theBeginning ). The actor who is known throughout the Netherlands as theunkillable Tatta (“I’m a kind of cockroach in that, yes”), was inventing_sleepers_ just on Macro Mafia started and also worked permanently atTheater Amsterdam.

Flat caps

“I thought ‘I’m fine every day in the theater, but to create someone else’sideas and creations’. I decided to see what fascinates and intrigues me. Myfather used to work for the police and he always told exciting stories. TheHolleeder trial with the betrayal of his sisters was going on at the time andI kept reading something about flat caps. That triggered me. Apparently therewas corruption within the police. I decided to dive into that, because I hadnever seen a series about it.”

👮‍♂️

sleepers

The term sleepers comes from the world of the secret services: people who arestationed in a certain country and are ‘woken up’ after a signal to startspying. Co-screenwriter Simon de Waal translated this to the police world withRobert de Hoog. De Waal: “In the Netherlands there are only rumors about this.Ever since the eighties, when criminal Klaas Bruinsma might have sleepers. Butno, we don’t know whether they really exist in our police world. However, itcould just be in the newspaper tomorrow and that makes the series realistic.”

Special cast, including Teun Kuilboer

“I have been acting for a long time and therefore know many actors that I wasable to ask,” says De Hoog, who appeared in 2008 for the telefilm Skin hasalready been rewarded with a Golden Calf. “For example, I played with HansKesting at Theater Amsterdam for years. Very nice that all those amazingactors, but also a top crew, wanted to do this. I enjoyed experiencing it notonly as an actor, but also from my new creative position.”

One of those actors is Teun Kuilboer. The 40-year-old born in Haarlem has gonefrom poster hunk in twenty years Good times Bad Times has grown into agifted actor who is careful with the roles he chooses. He has been in theseries in recent years, among other things La Family and Commands and themovies Bon Bini Holland and The Heineken Kidnapping to see. He got to knowRobert de Hoog during their time in the aforementioned Skin. Had De Hoog afriendly thank you for that sleepers accepted from his friend? The maker:”Then I would have laughed at him very loudly and said ‘see you tomorrowmorning’.”

Of course yes

Teun Kuilboer naturally said ‘yes’: „Since Skin , in which I played a Naziyouth and Robert a Jewish boy who joined the Nazis, we’re good friends. Ofcourse wax sleepers therefore a ‘go’ for me. He had been working on it for along time and we talked about it many times. I think it’s great that he workedvery purposefully and that he succeeded.”

In sleepers is Teun Kuilboer Willem, friend of agent Martin and grew up> with the same stepfather. You could call him a type of cap, butt, expensive> watch, big mouth, but still sympathetic. The kind of person you would love> to have a beer with, but after one time think: let’s stick to that one time.> Kuilboer: “Drinking a beer with Willem in a charming way is fine, but maybe> the lives should not become intertwined. Willem is in a difficult corner. I> wouldn’t be so quick to commit my life to him. My character slowly but> surely drags Martin into the depths. But I can betray that she was fifteen> years before you got in sleepers steps, together even though they have> entered the depths. It is not entirely Willem’s responsibility and he also> wants to put things right.”

The bar was high for Sleepers

From the time that Robert de Hoog started his project sleepers started, oneafter the other own top series was delivered for Videoland, Netflix and alsothe NPO. The bar was immediately set very high in that respect. “I got itmyself Macro Mafia of Achmed Akkabi, one of my best friends, of course. Heis also an actor and maker and has paved the way for others. The bar wasindeed high, but that only inspired me. I don’t like boxes like ‘a journalistshouldn’t write books and an actor shouldn’t direct’. So it is possible andnow also in the Netherlands. In America they are no different. I am gratefulthat Videoland believes in me very much.” The trust between the streamingservice and Robert de Hoog is so great that a second series sleepers alreadyordered and in the pen. There may be more than six episodes.

Sleepers or sleepers?

Teun Kuilboer, who admits sportingly that he has sometimes gloated about thefact that he, for example, is not in Macro Mafia Sat: “It is very nice tonotice that there is more room for the creatives when it comes to makingseries, in this case Robert. Broadcasters see that it produces better qualityand that you achieve results. Robert has worked a lot as an actor and knowsevery facet of how it works and how you might be able to do things moreeasily. What I like so far sleepers I have longed for that for a long timethat we could do something like this in the Netherlands.” Kuilboer sometimesaccidentally says the title of the series in Dutch. He himself can laugh aboutit being pointed out to him – especially by Robert de Hoog – that it really is_sleepers_ is.

Beloved characters die

What is striking in series of recent years is that beloved characters can justdie in one of the first episodes. So also back in sleepers, although wewon’t reveal any names of course. Robert de Hoog: „It is the ultimatesurprise, I just like that. In the underworld, no one is sure of his life. Soyou can make it in front of the viewer, because that’s how it really goes andthe world is put together.” Teun Kuilboer: „ Game of Thrones had it too. Ithink it’s a nice development. It keeps you on the edge of your seat andanything can happen. The good guy doesn’t always make it to the end.”

Sleepers Videoland Robert deHoogThe cast of Sleepers. Photo: Jasper Suyk

sleepers is not only beautiful to look at ( Subway already looked ahead, tip!), but of course also has a serious side: the emergence of a new ‘load’ ofmostly young criminals in our country. Does that worry the actors? TeunKuilboer: “The world of today worries me, yes. The uprooting has beensignificant over the past twenty years, the uprooting of boys and girls whogrow up not feeling that they belong to society. They don’t get manyopportunities and therefore choose a different path.” Robert de Hoog: “Youlook up sleepers to a fictional story, but I wouldn’t be surprised if itturns out to be true tomorrow. The underworld is capable of it and there hasbeen talk in court cases about possible corruption among police officers foryears. It is an interesting theme that everyone is actually a bit afraid of.”

Six episodes available immediately

sleepers can now be seen in its entirety on Videoland. Or actually sincelast night, when the series suddenly appeared on the streaming service as asurprise. Robert de Hoog, before looking back at – now extension – Spain –Morocco: “You can look at it in one go. Or maybe it’s a good tip forChristmas, binge watching. I love that myself and especially that you candetermine the moment of viewing. Sometimes not, then I think it’s good to haveto wait a whole week for a new episode. The man behind sleepers considersthat before the penalties at the World Cup in Qatar start, he still hassomething to say: „The term Golden Calf came up earlier. Just write that thejury can give it to Teun Kuilboer this time.”

The first two episodes can also be seen on RTL 4 from 8.31 pm tonight. Thenext four episodes are only exclusively on Videoland.

How an Indian news channel was swallowed up by the richest man in Asia

His voice was calm as ever, but the message that the famous televisionpresenter Ravish Kumar announced last week caused consternation in the Indianmedia landscape: he was leaving news channel NDTV. Immediately. He had awarning for viewers of the channel. “Every good side of journalism is beingsystematically destroyed in this day and age.”

The ominous words refer to the takeover of the media company by the tycoonGaumat Adani, the richest man in Asia. The media arm of its Adani Enterprisehad already announced in August that it had indirectly acquired a 29 percentstake in NDTV. At the end of November, it opened a public offer to become themajority shareholder. Monday evening it was announced that Adani has acquired37 percent of the shares.

A ‘hostile takeover’ and an attack on press freedom according to critics, because as the largest shareholder he has a say in the approach of the mediacompany. Founders Prannoy and Radhika Roy opposed the takeover and left theholding company that bought Adani. The couple still own shares in NDTV; themajor shareholders could therefore come into conflict with each other.

24-hour news channel

NDTV (New Delhi Television) is one of the few impartial media companies inIndia. It started in the 1980s as a production house for the public and thenonly broadcaster Doordashan. It launched the first 24-hour news channel in1998, today viewers can choose: NDTV India is in Hindi, 24×7 in English. Inthe 2000s it also set up channels for lifestyle and financial news, althoughthese were financially problematic.

Unrest at the top of the media company did little to detract from the image ofNDTV reporting. According to journalist Ruben Banerjee, NDTV expresses a”sound that is scarce in the Indian media”: nuanced and balanced criticism ofboth those in power and the opposition. “Indian TV channels are loud, literally and figuratively. Commentators and anchors screaming andpresenting the news partisan. But at NDTV the news is not in your face ”, hedescribes on the phone.

According to research by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, three quarters of BJP (the ruling party) voters and 81 percent of other votersconsider NDTV a reliable source of information.

For a long time, the company behind the channels operated independently. Withthe takeover by a conglomerate like that of Adani – he amassed his billions inenergy production and logistics, among other things – this would come to anend. Many other channels, magazines and websites are already owned by anotherIndian tycoon, Mukesh Ambani. These two richest businessmen in India also haveclose ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The billionaire Adani and thepolitician are from the same state. They are seen at dinner parties and in thesame social circles.

In the same period, the press in India has been increasingly curtailed, thejournalists themselves write and international organizations conclude. Modi’sBJP government tolerates little public criticism; journalists are threatenedwith legal prosecution for defamation. Physical violence against reporters hasincreased. The press freedom organization Reporters without Borders droppedIndia several places this year on its annual Press Freedom Index to number150, the country’s worst rating ever.

Lap dogs

Departing NDTV presenter Kumar speaks of a “devastating effect” in thefarewell video he posted on YouTube. He specifically referred to the _god_media’, the term borrowed from Hindi denoting media that meekly take thegovernment’s position as ‘lapdogs’. “Whoever wants to work in journalism nowbecomes a real estate agent [in informatie].”

Fellow journalist BanerjeeThat __wrote abook about the “deep rot” in the Indian press, understands the concerns abouteditorial independence. According to him, however, this has nothing to do withpolitical color: “It is problematic that the media are swallowed up in aconstruction in which business interests are put above real journalism. Nocompany has the courage to go against the government anymore. Adani is not theonly one, certainly not the first, to acquire a media company. The system isharmful.” In recent years, the laws have become stricter and legal actionagainst critical journalists has become more resentful, he agrees. “Thepattern of this influence has now become clear. Each subsequent government nowknows how to pressure the media and control the national narrative.”

For Banerjee, it is encouraging that Ravish Kumar, widely loved, has made hisopposition public. He points out that one million social media userssubsequently subscribed to his YouTube channel: “In any case, there are Indiannews consumers who do need this kind of serious journalism.”

Whether impartial reporting at NDTV would disappear completely after atakeover by Adani remains to be seen. The businessman spoke in an interviewwith the British newspaper Financial Times rather about his ambitions for aglobal Indian media brand.

Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40, and Too $hort Are A Super Group For Graying Rap Fans

The album title consists of four names that need no introduction: Snoop,Cube, 40, $hort. These rap icons just claim themselves as architects of WestCoast hip-hop. As Mount Westmore, they’re a supergroup whose presence isetched in the California landscape.

Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40, and Too $hort also represent a wave of old-schoolrappers sustaining recording careers well into their 50s, long after the hitshave subsided, and fans have moved on to fresher trends. (Tellingly, theysnark about “IG” and TikTok.) New work by first-wave golden-age heroes tendsto be throwback affairs that hearken to the past – Chill Rob G’s recent_Empire ‘s Crumble_ is a recommended example – or pop confections where theelsewhere gamely try to party with the kids. Throw Snoop into the lattercategory: last summer, he scored a top 10 Billboard hit with BTS and BennyBlanco on “Bad Decisions.”

More from Rolling Stone

Yes, Uncle Snoop’s guileless ability to personify the “How do you do, fellowkids” meme is what makes him so beloved to everyone. It may also be why hesounds slightly bored on Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort. This is very much an IceCube affair, and he sculpts this album in his loud, punchy, hard-funkin’style. Too $hort acquits himself well, too, striking a balance between mustypimp raps and surprisingly effective community-oriented lyrics. E-40 remains astyle ambassador, gliding with its liquid, off-center flow. Snoop is a dutifulpresence by comparison, though he occasionally gets a good verse in, like whenhe reminisces about attending the legendary Fresh Fest arena tour in theEighties as a young hog on “Do My Best.” All four men are multimillionaireswith innumerable business ventures, and this Mount Westmore project wasoriginally planned for release in 2021. One gets the sense they had to aligntheir busy schedules before they found time to drop it.

Story continues

thankfully, Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort doesn’t dabble in newfangled gimmickslike trap and drill. The music is no frills G-funk and mob music. Part of thefun is scanning the credits for all the OGs who contributed, like Rick Rock,Soopafly, Battlecat, Fredwreck, Droop E, Ant Banks, and Simon “ProHoeZak”McKinley, whom some diggers may recall for his Nineties single as C- Funk,“Coconut in Ya Lime.” Even Cube’s old NWA partner Dr. Dre drops in to saywhat’s up on “Too Big.” Incidentally, that song might be the album’s bestconcession to current tastes since it’s produced by P-Lo, an East Bay star whoalso garlands “Too Big” with its chorus.

Otherwise, this is a grown folks’ party. There are some goofy lines from thefour GOATs about threesomes on “Motto.” “We burn rubber, me, her, and herlover,” raps Snoop. Ice Cube keeps making references to old pop lore like T.J. Hooker and Clash of the Titans. “It’s a new day, still got the AK/Ifthese bitches want to take it back to 88,” he warns on “Big Subwoofer.” Thequartet settles into a zone about midway through the 16-track album, and “Havea Nice Day,” “Ghetto Gutter,” and “I Got Pull” all satisfy. They also offerplenty of “Free Game” to the kids who happen to wander into the room. “I seethe homies outside, sellin’ crack/There’s no way out if you stuck in thetrap,” raps Too $hort on “Ghetto Gutter.”

The beats are generally good, but the choruses are often perfunctory excusesto get from one verse to the next. The days when these four could drop hookslike a gut punch have largely passed. And Ice Cube, whose political stormsinclude a “Contract with America” meeting with former President Trump, remainsprone to saying shit like, “We’re victims of elites” on “Have a Nice Day.”However, it’s also a ridiculously thrilling moment. Cube talking reckless, Too$hort as the pimp with a heart of gold, E-40’s deep slanguage, and smooth ol’Uncle Snoop: this is Mount Westmore’s appeal to their graying base.

“If I had four of my favorite rappers on a track/I would expect it to havesome slaps that sound like hella far back,” raps E-40 on “Do My Best.” “Iwould expect it to have some shit like this to make me reminisce/When I was upin the dope game, having my money, getting rich.”

The argument is about the strict rules that Kody applies to prevent a coronainfection. For example, previous episodes show Kody still wanting everyone inhis family to wear face masks when they’re out in public and constantlysanitizing their hands. Groceries and mail must also be disinfectedimmediately upon arrival and visits to the theater, a bar or restaurant areexcluded. The children cannot escape this either: they are only allowed to seetheir friends from a distance.

Kody’s rules have caused quite a division within the family. For example, hisand Janelle’s sons absolutely disagree with the rules. Kody feels that Janelledoesn’t “respect” his rules either. “Kody, you are now asking me to choosebetween you and my children,” Janelle sighs. Kody disagrees and thinks Janellelooks down on everything he’s trying to “achieve” within the family. To backup his argument, he stands up and yells, “I’m really furious that everyone istrying to blame me for everything! I really thought I was going to die when Ihad the coronavirus and I just realized that you I can’t escape it. All Iwanted was to protect my family.”

Kody is clearly on a roll and goes even further. “I can’t believe I did allthis to protect you. To protect Truely (their daughter, ed.). And to protectmy children. I’ve only received criticism from you and our sons and zerorespect. And now you’re wondering why am I angry? I’ve been persecuted by myown family for 18 months for simply trying to protect them. My heart isbroken. This is why Christine left.”

Janelle sees the situation very differently. “Kody, I did my best. I stoodbetween my children and the rest of the family and I always followed allcorona rules.” Janelle elaborates on this in a so-called ‘confessional’. “It’salways the same song. I won’t be belittled and I’m certainly not going to bowto him. No way. I don’t need any of this. In the last 18 months I’ve realizedthat I can manage just fine on my own. I’m independent and I’m not going tostand here and let him yell at me anymore. I don’t deserve that and I don’t
