La primera vez que vino a España a hacer el Camino de Santiago, en 2010, tuveuna revelación que me cambió la vida: descubrí la SD Ponferradina. No sé muybien lo que me ocurrió la primera vez que pisé el estadio de El Toralín… Esdifícil de explicar con palabras. Se despertó en mí una especie de sentimientode pertenencia, una fascinación que me convirtió en un verdadero peregrino,aunque de la Ponfe. Cada temporada viajo desde York, la ciudad del norte deInglaterra donde vivo, para asistir a una media de diez o doce partidos delequipo.

De pequeño era del Newcastle, pero ya no. A cualquiera que me pregunte ahora amis 42 años le digo con orgullo que soy de la Ponferradina. A mi familia yamigos les parecía una locura. Sobre todo cuando en 2014 decidí mudarme con mimujer a Ponferrada para estar más cerca de mi otro nuevo amor. “¿Te hasmarchado a España por el sol y la playa?”, me preguntaban. “No, donde yo vivohace frío y está rodeado de montañas”, les contestaba.

Cuando estuve allí aproveché para seguir al equipo a todas partes, de unaforma un tanto curiosa: a bordo de una bicicleta. 19,000 kilometres me hicepara estar a todos los campos de LaLiga SmartBank. Locuras de este tipo fueronlas que me hicieron conocido en la ciudad y en el club. He tenido el placer dehablar varias veces con el capitán y máximo goleador de la historia de lainstitución, Yuri da Souza, y en 2019 me dejaron subir al balcón delAyuntamiento de Ponferrada cuando la plantilla estaba celebrando el regreso ala categoría de plata. ¡Llegaron a corear mi nombre!

Creo que he ayudado a que se conozca un poco más a la Ponferradina. De mihistoria se ha hecho eco la BBC e incluso (no me preguntéis como se enteraron)una televisión iraní. También difundo el sentimiento del club allá donde vaya:del campo del todopoderoso Paris Saint-Germain a una de esas gradas donde lagente está de pie, tan típicas del fútbol regional inglés. Una de mis otrasfacetas es la de ground hopper , que se podría traducir como “saltador decampos”. Así se conocen a los que se han planteado como reto vital presenciarin situ la mayor cantidad posible de partidos en estadios diferentes.

Al cabo de dos años regresé con mi mujer a Inglaterra, aunque ya os he dichoantes que siempre que puedo me escapo a Ponferrada. Trabajo and serviciossociales al cuidado de niños. En casa he montado una especie de museo concamisetas colgadas, todo tipo de keepsakes y decenas de entradas de partidosque he ido coleccionando a lo largo de esta última década. Mis dos hijas, comono, tienen una camiseta del club con su nombre impreso en la espalda. Eincluso en Navidad hemos cambiado el menú, y en vez de pavo como se suelehacer en las casas inglesas, lo hemos cambiado por el botillo, plato típico dela región de El Bierzo con carne de cerdo. Todo lo que me recuerda a laPonferradina, a la ciudad de Ponferrada ya su gente, me hace feliz. No hayfelicidad comparable a la que siento cuando estoy animando en El Toralín.

Akyol reveals that he waseager to have Can on his program, but was afraid he would say no. Can didn’t,but he finds it exciting. “I don’t like looking at myself. I don’t find manythings exciting, but this is. More exciting than a battlefield in Iraq.”

Can does not immediately ring bells with the three artists, although one ofthem does recognize him as a “famous Nijmegen resident”. He introduces himselfto the trio. “I am a documentary maker and travel a lot through war zones. Itry to find the beauty in the pain and the ruins of war.” He says he iscurrently working on a series about the soft, poetic, hopeful side of theMiddle East.

Can thinks he has a ‘boring life’ in the Netherlands

While the artists start portraying, Akyol starts his fire of questions. “Ijust heard you say to the artists that you have a boring life here. Thatwasn’t a joke, was it?” Can confirms with a smile. “Maybe boring is a bit ofan ungrateful term, but it’s quiet. We live in a safe country in theNetherlands. For me, the transition is always quite big from a war zone to aquiet, peaceful and comfortable country.”

The first conflict Can experienced was in Iraq. “It almost immediately wentwrong with a bomb attack that I was there. I was fifty feet from that car whenit exploded. All kinds of people went towards it, but behind that car anothercar was parked, which they also exploded. This caused many deaths and injuriesin one go. Thirty people died and ninety people were injured. I was reallyscared and in a state of shock for the first time. I really thought: what haveI gotten myself into?”

Akyol thinks this could be a reason not to go to these areas anymore. “Thatdidn’t happen,” says Can. “It really became a reason to go there. There was anIraqi gentleman I complained to and he said to me, ‘It’s only hell when no onesees you suffer anymore.’ He said it was a journalist’s thankless job to hearand record those stories. If you don’t come, we will be forgotten.”

‘I must confess that I enjoy few things’

Such work can make someone sad, Akyol suspects. “I am also sad, I think,”confirms the documentary maker. “Even though I laugh a lot. I think I’m sadinside. It sounds very strange, but if you say to me: ‘What do you reallyenjoy intensely?’ Then I must confess very honestly: of few things. It may bea dark edge to your soul if you have seen so much misery in the past elevenyears. When you see how unscrupulous people can be.” Can therefore thinks thathe will have to stop in this corner of journalism in a few years.

The documentary maker has his own ways of getting rid of the negative energy.“I walk through Nijmegen a lot. Sometimes with friends, like with FrankBoeijen. A principios de noviembre se estrenó en la portería del Real Oviedo el francésQuentin Braat. Podría ser un debut más de todos los que, a mis 22 años, hevisto en el club en el que llevo más de media vida como abonado. Braat, un espigado arquero de más 1,90, estaba en mi lista. Ya había hechoalgún análisis previo de él. A raíz de los rumores del fichaje, los publiquéen mi perfil de Twitter, @mikelscouting, donde tengo más de 1,000 seguidores ytuvieron mucha repercusión. Automáticamente comenzaron a llegarme likes. Lamayoría de mis seguidores son, como yo, aficionados del Oviedo, por lo quetambién me preguntaban sobre sus cualidades. El club estaba buscando un nuevoperfil para la portería, y casi todas las preguntas eran la misma: “¿Va bienpor alto cuando sale?”. Yo respondí siempre que sí, porque me parece que es unportero que va muy bien por arriba. Además, me gusta esa clase de guardametasarriesgados, aunque a veces puedan cometer fallos. De momento me está dando larazón, ya que tras su debut se ha afianzado como titular y está dejando buenassensaciones.

Esta anécdota me ha servido para motivarme en el trabajo. Siempre me hagustado mucho el fútbol y he perdido la cuenta del número de partidos que veocada semana, tanto del Oviedo en LaLiga SmartBank como de otras competiciones.Sin embargo, reconozco que fue algo casual empezar a dedicarme a esto de ojearfutbolistas. Hice un par de cursos de formación que imparten academias ysecretarías técnicas de distintos clubes. Hasta que el San Fernando aprovechópara ficharme. Creo que les gustó un trabajo final que hice sobre Pelayo Rey,uno de los jugadores del Oviedo Vetusta, el filial ovense, que venía de haceruna temporada sensacional. Mi gran oportunidad llegó hace unas semanas, cuandola agencia de representación ElitFutSports me invitó a un torneo de captaciónen Costa de Marfil. Aunque nunca había estado en Africa, ni lo dudé. Llamé amis padres, les conté la noticia, y un par de días después ya estaba viajandohacia allí. Fue una experiencia increíble.

A class-action lawsuit contends that stakeholders in Yuga Labs, the parentcompany of NFT series Bored Ape Yacht Club and its affiliated digitalproducts, engaged in a conspiracy with celebrities to defraud potentialinvestors.

In the complaint, filed Dec. 8 in federal district court in LA, Yuga partners— including veteran music manager Guy Oseary — are named among the 37defendants, who include Kevin Hart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Justin Bieber,Serena Williams, Jimmy Fallon, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, The Weeknd, PostMalone and NBA star Steph Curry. Also named is Amy Wu, who recently exitedtroubled cyptocurrency exchange FTX and served as a consultant and boardmember of the ApeDAO.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages of at least $5 million on behalf of theplaintiffs and the putative class of “all others similarly situated.”

Reached by variety , a Yuga Labs spokesperson said, “In our view, theseclaims are opportunistic and parasitic. We strongly believe that they arewithout merit, and look forward to proving as much.”

Plaintiffs Adonis Real and Adam Titcher claim that in promoting or endorsingthe Bored Ape community through social media and other mediums, theseentertainers and athletes caused the value of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) toballoon to “artificially inflated and distorted prices” and engaged inmisleading promotions that did not disclose alleged financial compensation.The two also allege that the “scheme” involved MoonPay, which facilitatedtransfers of ownership to the celebrities named, some of whom were backers ofthe service. One such investor named is Fallon, whose on-air name-check ofMoonPay as “the PayPal of crypto” on a Nov. 11, 2021, episode featuring MikeWinkelmann, the digital artist known as Beeple, is cited, as is a Jan. 24,2022, appearance on “The Tonight Show” by Hilton.

Another prominent piece of promotion came by way of an FTX teaser commercialfeaturing Steph Curry carving an ice sculpture of a Bored Ape with thetagline, “When learning about crypto, you’ll be anything but bored.”

The complaint states that there exist more than 103,000 unique account holdersof Yuga securities — which includes the Bored Ape offshoot Mutant Ape Club;the metaverse “Otherside,” which offered virtual land sales; and the tokenApeCoin — of which Yuga receives a 2.5% royalty rate “every time one of itsNFTs is resold on the secondary market.”

The period specified in the class action is from April 24, 2021, to present.At its portfolio height in early 2022, Bored Ape NFTs were fetching in thehundreds of thousands of dollars with what were deemed rare characteristics.Plaintiff Titcher purchased a Mutant Ape and an Otherdeed for the Bored Apemetaverse Otherside, and Real purchased ApeCoin tokens, according to thelawsuit.

Investing in NFTs is not without risk, particularly as the trade of suchassets remains unregulated. Also affecting the market is the crypto crashwhich began in early summer and saw another blow in November with the collapseof FTX. A class action lawsuit filed Nov. 15 accused FTX celebrity “brandambassadors” including Larry David, Tom Brady, Giselle Bündchen, ShaquilleO’Neal and Steph Curry of deceptively encouraging consumers to invest in thecompany.

The lawsuit against Yuga Labs and others was filed in the US District Courtfor the Central District of California, Western Division. The case is docketno. 2:22-CV-08909-FMO-PLA. The plaintiffs are represented by San Diego firmScott & Scott, which went public with itsintentionto form a class action in July. In November, the firm also targeted, via aseries of “investigation alerts,” Warner Music Group, Live Nation, Beyond Meatand Poshmark, among others, for breach of fiduciary duties.

Last week, a class action lawsuit against Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather andother celebrity promoters of EthereumMax, was dismissed by a federal judge.Per a CNBC report, judge Michael Fitzgerald of the Central District ofCalifornia noted in his dismissal, “While the law certainly places limits onthose advertisers, it also expects investors to act reasonably before basingtheir bets on the zeitgeist of the moment.”

El problema es que no podemos hacer este plan muy amenudo porque tenemos una pequeña dificultad: vivimos a 300 kilómetros dedistancia. “I needed to just hold myself accountable for it,” she admitted.

But that experience hasn’t put her off from resuming resumed therapy; it’sjust changed her intentions.

“Now I am doing it because I just want to make sure I’m topping myself upevery week to make sure I can give you everything,” she said.

Adele revealed that she and her current therapist have been discussing thestress she typically feels about doing live shows, noting that she tends toget “emotional.”
