‘I Don’t Have Anything to Prove Anymore’

_She ‘s _still the one!

Nearly 30 years after her first album, country icon Shania Twain is back andbusier than ever.

Twain, 57, has scaled some historic peaks. The bestselling female countryartist of all time with more than 100 million records sold worldwide, Twainredefined the genre with rollicking hits like “Any Man of Mine,” “That Don’tImpress Me Much” and “I’m Gonna Getcha Good! ” But she also endureddevastating lows on her path to superstardom, from her parents’ tragic deathsand a shocking betrayal that led to her divorce from her first husband to abattle with Lyme disease that nearly destroyed her voice.

The Timmins, Ontario, native began singing in bars at 8 years old. And when> her mom, Sharon, and stepdad, Jerry, died when she was just 22, Twain began> performing at a resort to support her three younger siblings.

“It was like, ‘This is all I know how to do. I’ve got to support the kids.’That gave me a motivation and a fearless state of mind, because when you don’thave a choice, you’ve got to push through — and that’s what I did,” she says.

She eventually brought that brave spirit to Nashville and in 1995 brokethrough with her second LP, The Woman in Me , which she created with herproducer husband Robert “Mutt” Lange. But it was with her third album, 1997’s_Come on Over_ that Twain disrupted a male-dominated business and made anunprecedented crossover to pop, paving the way for future artists like TaylorSwift.

“She wasn’t afraid to blur genre lines, show midriff or redefine what it meantto be a woman in country music,” says country-pop star Kelsea Ballerini, 29.”That boldness is something I hope to carry throughout my career. “

Adds Grammy winner Maren Morris, 32: “Shania really had one of the most iconiccrossovers in country history… I admire her confidence in her path because shereally just loves bringing people together, no matter the sound coming out ofthe speakers. “

With her 2002 album Up! , Twain became the only artist ever to have threesuccessive diamond-certified albums (with sales of more than 10 million each). But even with her groundbreaking accomplishments, Twain struggled to be takenseriously as an artist and faced sexist assumptions that she owed her successto her male collaborators.

“It was very offensive to be considered a molded artist, that it took a man ora team to mold me,” says Twain. “I bit my tongue a lot. But when you’re in theindustry from a young age as a woman, you really learn how to let it roll offyour back.”

Twain faced even more setbacks after she took a break from the spotlight tofocus on raising her and Lange’s son Eja, now 21, in 2004. In 2008, her14-year marriage to Lange imploded when she learned of his affair with herclose friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud.

“It was a very low period in my life,” says Twain, who sank into a> depression. Following the betrayal, she and Marie-Anne’s husband, former> Nestlé exec Frédéric, commiserated over their shared heartbreak and soon> after fell in love.

With her heart on the mend, Twain confronted another issue: her voice. Formore than seven years, she was unable to project vocally and worried she’dnever sing again. Eventually doctors diagnosed Twain with Lyme disease from a2004 tick bite, which they believe damaged the nerves in her vocal cords. Sherevealed how to sing, with lengthy warm-ups and physical therapy, and in 2018Twain underwent open-throat surgery to strengthen the weakened nerves.

“I may not be able to [sing] forever,” she says, “but right now I’m justenjoying where I am.”

Indeed, Twain’s contentment comes through loud and clear on Queen of Me ,her upbeat, empowering new LP that she says she wrote to escape the despair ofthe pandemic. The record — her first in five years — is just the latestchapter of her resurgence. Her surprise Coachella cameo with Harry Styles lastApril helped her win over a new generation of fans, and her Netflixdocumentary released last summer, Not Just a Girl reminded longtime devoteeswhy they loved her in the first place.

“All these years later, I’m still here, almost in a bigger way,” she says,”and I’m embracing it.”

Is your favorite music on CD or your phone, but not yet on Spotify? This is how you solve it | Tech

Music service Spotify is immensely popular. There are also millions of usersin the Netherlands who enjoy music and podcasts via the streaming serviceevery day. However, your favorite song is not always on the music service.Fortunately, there is a solution for that.

With more than 82 million songs, you secretly expect that every song you wantto listen to is on the streaming service. Yet there are plenty of people wholike specific versions of songs that are not (yet) on the streaming service.Think of music from a concert that you can listen to on a special CD.

The CDs are probably gathering dust in the bookcase at home. A secret functionof Spotify still gives you the option to put these songs on the streamingservice.

Fish local files from the PC

Spotify has a special button called “Local Files” in its settings. When youturn this button on, depending on the device you’re using, you’ll be given theoption to make files from your phone or PC available in Spotify.

On PC, for example, you get an overview of the folders in which Spotify hasfound music. Via the program on the computer you can then choose which folderswith music you want to add to Spotify or not. Now you can easily access yourfavorite songs left in the previous decade through Spotify app on PC.

If the folder with your music does not immediately appear in the Spotifysettings, there is an extra button. You can click on ‘Add a source’. Then youget the option to search for the folder with the music you want to add toSpotify’s ‘Local files’.

Taking your old music on a trip

That does not mean that the music is also immediately available via the app onyour phone. For that you have to take some extra actions. After all, the localfiles that you have added via the PC are not yet on your phone. Fortunately, there is also a solution for this.

If you add all songs from the imported album to a new playlist, you’ve alreadytaken the first step. The second step is to grab your phone and open theSpotify app. Then look for the new playlist containing the songs from theimported album and click on the download icon (a round circle with a downarrow).

Then Spotify will make all music from the imported album available on yoursmartphone. The individual songs can therefore also be added to otherplaylists or your ‘Like’ list. This way you have the numbers with youeverywhere and always when you are traveling.

Transfer music from your phone to Spotify

If you want to add the music that is not on Spotify from your phone, that isalso an option. At the heading ‘Home’ you simply press the gear icon to go tothe settings of the app. Scroll all the way down to find the “Local Files”tab.

Again you see a slider to show the audio files of the device. Your phone thenasks if you want to give Spotify permission to, among other things, yourmusic. If you allow it, Spotify can show all audio files from your phone.Under the tab ‘Library’ you will see a folder called ‘Local files’.

You can then easily find all the music that is locally on your phone inSpotify. If you then want to make these songs available on your PC or laptop, you can use the aforementioned method to listen to the local music from yourPC on your phone. The same trick also works the other way around, so youalways have all your favorite songs in Spotify.

Tenebrosa, the hecho.

Strong promos in telecomland: give yourself a cheaper internet subscription for Christmas | MyGuide

MytelcoThe Christmas holidays are coming. That means not only that you andyour offspring will be at home more, but also that you will be on the interneta lot more: for gaming and streaming Christmas movies, for example. How do youguarantee enough internet for your whole family? And what should you payattention to when taking out a subscription? Mijntelco.be checked it out.

By Felix Ferret, in collaboration with Mijntelco 20-12-22, 09:01

Source: Mijntelco.be

Not only is the Christmas period a time in which we all use more internet thanusual, it is also a period in which there are quite a few promos to be foundat telecom providers.

Apart from the prices – the lower, the better of course – there are 2parameters that you should pay close attention to when evaluating a (new)internet subscription: on the one hand your internet usage and on the otherhand your internet speed.

Is your offspring a big fan of social media? These apps cause highinternet usage.

Parameter 1: internet usage

To find out how much you use on an average month, check your monthly bill orcheck your provider’s online service. If you notice that on average you arealready close to the limit of your subscription, then an upgrade of yoursubscription before the Christmas holidays is definitely recommended.

Naturally, the required data volume for your internet subscription depends onyour usage. Those who download a lot of films, series or games need more data. For example, someone with a subscription with 50 GB or 100 GB can quickly runinto problems during the holidays. A formula with a limit of up to 150 GB oreven unlimited internet is then recommended.

Parameter 2: internet speed

If you want to watch films and series at the same time, surf, play games anddownload files on different devices, it is not inconceivable that yourexisting subscription does not attract that combination. You can solve thatwith an upgrade of your internet speed.

You then look for an internet subscription with a higher number of Mbps. Asubscription formula with a speed of 100 Mbps or higher is suitable in mostcases.

The best deals with lots of data

A data volume of 150 GB and a minimum internet speed of 100 Mbps: that’s whatwe’re looking for. Based on those criteria, Orange appears to be the cheapest. With the Home Flybox you get, in addition to the desired internet volume, aspeed of 210 Mbps for 22 euros per month. The start-up costs are currentlyonly 39 euros, instead of 129 euros (subject to a 12-month commitment).

If you go for unlimited internet, the range is much wider and there are alsomore promotions. For example, you currently pay 28 euros per month at Orangefor the first three months for a Love Duo subscription with Go Light, insteadof 46 euros per month. In addition, there are now no start-up costs. You getunlimited internet, with a speed of 150 Mbps, and a mobile subscription with150 calling minutes and 2 GB of mobile data.

With or without temporary promotions: edpnet is, as is often the case, theundisputed price breaker in the field of internet. At 35.95 euros per month, the VDSL XL subscription, with unlimited internet and a speed of 100 Mbps, isby far the best deal. Those who opt for this formula pay only EUR 31.95 permonth for the first 12 months, a saving of EUR 48. The start-up costs are 149euros.

The best deals for fast internet

Edpnet is also the cheapest option for those looking for higher internetspeeds. A Fiber XL subscription offers you unlimited internet with a speed of500 Mbps for EUR 45.95 per month. At 261.85 euros, the start-up costs are onthe high side, although they have now been temporarily reduced to 159 euros.

If you regularly change internet provider, the start-up costs at edpnet may bea barrier. A Love Duo subscription with Go Light from Orange can thereforeoffer a good alternative. Thanks to a temporary promotion, you don’t pay anystart-up costs (instead of 59 euros) and you receive 43 euros per month forthe first three months instead of 61 euros. For this you get unlimitedinternet at a speed of 400 Mbps, and a mobile subscription with 150 callingminutes and 2 GB of mobile data.

Do you want the full package?

For those who really want to go all-in, there is one address: Mobile Vikings.A few months ago, the Proximus subsidiary started with home internet, including fiber. Such a fiber subscription costs 55 euros per month andprovides you with unlimited internet at a speed of 1 Gbps. The start-up costsare normally 149 euros, but are completely gone at the moment. ** Do you want to switch to a new provider?** Take the step now without much

Christopher Nolan shows explosive star cast Oppenheimer

Meet the explosive first trailer for Oppenheimer , Christopher Nolan’s nextblockbuster. Again he opens a dizzying view of top actors.

If IMDb’s top 250 has taught us one thing, it’s that you should pay attentionwhen Christopher Nolan releases a new movie. The filmmaker and champion of thetrue cinema experience delivers blockbuster after blockbuster. From the bestDC movies to the dizzying Tenet the film that helped him decide to leaveWarner Bros. after nineteen years.

Christopher Nolan presents Oppenheimer

Don’t be alarmed: it’s been two years now Tenet came out. Thankfully,Christopher Nolan’s next film is just around the corner. Then we’re talkingabout Oppenheimer , a drama film released by Nolan under the roof ofUniversal Pictures. Well, which studio wouldn’t welcome Nolan with open arms?Although the films that Christopher Nolan makes are very expensive andtherefore not as lucrative as you might think. But yes, the prestige alone!

Alright, back to Oppenheimer. The film follows the life of the eponymoustheoretical physicist and his involvement in the Manhattan Project at the LosAlamos Laboratory, which would eventually lead to the invention of the atomicbomb. An invention with consequences that Oppenheimer struggled with.

Dazzling star cast

Robert Oppenheimer is played by Cilian Murphy, who is starring in aChristopher Nolan film for the sixth time. The rest of the cast is also of anabsurdly high caliber: Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., FlorencePugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Kenneth Branagh, David Dastmalchian, GaryOldman and Casey Affleck, among others, play a role in Oppenheimer. Yes, thebig names keep coming.

The blockbuster comes to cinemas on July 21, 2023, but Universal Pictures isalready treating us to a first taste. Time to see that star cast in action!Fortunately, Nolan does not immediately give away all the action, although anumber of things stand out. For example, the first released images wereentirely in black and white, but that does not apply to this trailer. Thefilmmaker combines both styles. The preliminary conclusion you can draw isjust that flashbacks are shown in black and white.

The teasing has started

It is also fascinating that Nolan also for Oppenheimer as much as possiblewith practical effects wants to work. Even when it comes to recreatingnuclear explosions. The nuclear test is barely visible in the trailer, but wedo get a very brief preview of the groundbreaking explosion. The _real deal_we will undoubtedly not see until the final film, a climax that Nolan can worktowards with his story.

Well, we actually know very little about it Oppenheimer and that’s a goodthing. sure, you can consult the many books, Wikipedia pages and otherresources about Robert Oppenheimer, but Nolan is clearly again applying hisown vision to the true story. Being seen track record you can also assumethat it will deliver something special. So our advice? Skip those trailers, teasers and other marketing material and let yourself be surprised in July.

still a mystery after twenty years

More than twenty years after its release, David Lynchs remains MulhollandDrive as fascinating as it is haunting. Now that the film is returning to thecinema in a restored version, a new generation of film fans can consider thequestion: what does this film actually tell?

Ewoud CeulemansDecember 19, 20222:25 pm

“Twenty years later, this is still the most meaningful and memorableexperience of my career,” actress Naomi Watts posted on her Instagram accountover a year ago, captioning a behind-the-scenes video on the set of_Mulholland Drive_. “I love you and thank you, David Lynch.”

Watts has since the premiere of Mulholland Drive at the Cannes Film Festivalin the spring of 2001, built up a fairly impressive resume, with roles inrespected 21 Grams, Eastern Promises and the Oscar-winning Birdman. Butnot coincidentally, her breakout role is in Mulholland Drive dearest to her.In the recent Sight and Sound poll of the greatest films of all time, onlytwo films from the 21st century made the top 10: Wong Kar-Wais In The Moodfor Love and Mulholland Drive. Five years ago, Lynch’s film topped a BBCpoll of the best films of this century.

Watts’ career hadn’t quite reached cruising speed when Lynch cast her as BettyElms, a young, naive actress who heads to Hollywood to pursue her dreams.Appropriate, right? Only, as in almost every David Lynch film, nothing is whatit seems: after all, Watts also plays Diane Selwyn, for whom the Hollywooddream has become a nightmare.

That metaphor was not chosen by chance. Lynch described Mulholland Drive_like “ _a love story in the city of dream s”, a tagline that could equallywell have applied to La La Land. But in Lynch’s world, Hollywood is not thesetting of a sun-drenched musical, but a place where all is not what it seems, where illusions are shattered, where all logic is lost. The title explicitlyrefers to Billy Wilders Sunset Blvd , another movie classic about themercilessness of Tinseltown. But just as Sunset Boulevard is a straight, wideavenue, the film follows a clear narrative. While Mulholland Drive is adark, winding road in the hills, hiding secrets behind every bend.

Just as Watts plays a naive and a failed actress, Laura Harring plays both afamously arrogant Hollywood star (the love interests from Diane) as thehelpless, unnamed survivor of a car accident (she is helped by Betty). Lynchalso focuses his camera on Adam (Justin Theroux), a flamboyant director who isbeing extorted by mafia film producers, but also on other figures who seem tohave nothing to do with the central plot, from a bumbling hit man to anordinary man who a weekday dinner tells of a nightmare – and promptlyrelives that nightmare.

It is those ‘extra’ scenes, which seem largely detached from the central plotsurrounding Watts and Harring’s characters, that provide an unambiguousinterpretation of Mulholland Drive complicate. The most common analysis isthat Betty Elms and “Rita,” as Harring’s unnamed character calls herself, arefantasies of the embittered, suicidal Diane Selwyn. But every possibleinterpretation has loose ends.

‘Lynchian’

The style and atmosphere of Lynch’s work is so unique that the adjective”Lynchian” has made it into the Oxford English Dictionary, explaining thatLynch’s films “place surreal or sinister elements against everyday, banalsettings” and “use haunting visual imagery that emphasizes a dreamlike qualityof mystery and menace”. That definition applies to Lynch’s best-known titles, from Blue Velvet until Twin Peaks but in Mulholland Drive that style isperfected.

It is also a style that is often imitated, but never matched. MulhollandDrive is unique, because it never becomes clear where reality ends and wherethe dream begins. Is Betty Elms a figment of Diane Selwyn’s imagination? Or isit the other way around? And who is the monstrous man with the mysterious bluebox behind the dinner lives? “There is no explanation,” said influentialcritic Roger Ebert at the time. “Maybe there isn’t even a mystery.”

A key scene is the one in which Betty and Rita visit a dark, grim nightclub.Music is playing, but the master of ceremonies emphasizes: “There is no band.Only a recording.” There is no reality, only an illusion. Yet you believe thatthe singer who afterwards performs ‘Llorando’ really sings – until she fallsdown and simply continues to play the song. As a viewer, you choose to stepinto the nightmare that Lynch creates, until you can no longer distinguishbetween dream and reality.

Since the release of Mulholland Drive the speculation about the film’sdenouement and significance has never stopped – type ‘Mulholland Drive’ intothe Google search bar, and you’ll instantly get ‘ explained as a suggestion. But the power of Lynch’s masterpiece lies precisely in the fact that you don’thave to fully unravel the mystery to feel the irresistible power of the film.Lynch himself also realizes this. “I never explain,” he told in 2018 TheGuardian about his work. “That would limit it, make it smaller.” After all, amovie or TV series is like a magic trick, he thinks. “And magicians don’t tellyou how they do things.”

**Mulholland Drive plays again in cinemas from Wednesday. **

Heavy dose of Tom Waes & Siska Schoeters, little fellow Niels Destadsbader: VRT will focus on classics and some novelties this spring | TV

VRT top doubts about ‘Blocks’

Next spring, the VRT top will not fiddle with the classic concrete block ofthe eve. ‘Daily food’, with Jeroen Mens, ‘Blokken’, with Ben Crabbé, ‘VRTNWS’, ‘Everyone famous’ and ‘Thuis’ remain intact. Whether that will also bethe case afterwards is less certain. The search for extra income drives theVRT bosses towards rejuvenation and innovation. It is no coincidence that’Blokken’ was sacrificed during the World Cup. The classic with Ben Crabbéstill scores great, but has an older audience.
