‘You can’t confuse this record with anything from Triggerfinger’

Ruben Block has been part of Triggerfinger for almost a quarter of a century, well known to you thanks to hits such as ‘All This Dancing Around’, ‘Is It’ orthe Lykke Li cover ‘I Follow Rivers’. Today the frontman steps forward with ahighly intriguing solo debut.

It took Ruben Block four years to Looking to Glide but without time pressurehe could continue to work on his firstfruits until all the details were right. The Triggerfinger frontman consulted a striker brother who had sent earlierstudio recordings of the same power trio. ‘s secret weapon Colossus (2017)?That was the producer, Block thought. “Mitchell Froom taught us to look atTriggerfinger in a different way,” he explains today. “We don’t necessarilyhave to sound big and loud to impress.”

We stroll through the Antwerp Zoo with Block and Froom. That evening, Froomwill play with Crowded House a little further down the road in the LottoArena. Block is the support act. We decide to rest at the monument of gorillaGust. “If I have to compare this record with an animal, I think of aflamingo”, Block thinks. “A strange, but beautiful bird that moves angularlyand idiosyncratically. By the way, on this record you also hear samples of agecko, and of ducks in the Venetian canals. There is music in life. Whyshouldn’t I mold that life into a song?”

Froom constantly challenged Block on the recordings, just as he did years agoon iconic records by Los Lobos, Elvis Costello or Suzanne Vega. When a full-blooded rock group from Belgium came knocking on his door about five yearsago, the producer raised his eyebrows at the time. “I like rock,” he says,“but I had never worked with such a hard and loud band like Triggerfinger. Iasked them if they were sure they wanted to work with me. But afterwards I wasso impressed with Ruben that I told him: ‘If you ever need me, call me, I’myour man’.

“And promise is debt. Suddenly he was at my door again. We saw each otherabout twice a year for an extended period of time, and for the last two yearswe worked remotely. It was all very informal, with no fuss or interferencefrom outsiders. Maybe that’s why it turned out to be such a daring and goodrecord, I think.”

The urge to experiment on Colossus even seems like a cautious stepping stonefor the sound on this solo debut, where Block pulls out all the stops. Well, what a solo: “Mitchell and I have done everything together: writing, recordingand producing. And Tchad Blake also sometimes gave new life to a song in themix. I thought it was important to tinker on my own, but it was equally niceto go deep into the woods with Mitchell. “For example, in the title song youhear a sample of my lawnmower at home (chuckles). It makes such a weirdnoise when you turn it off: wa-wuwuwuwu. That doesn’t mean anything in itself, but if you tinker with it a bit, it becomes a fantastic sound.

“I can’t imagine anyone would confuse this record with anything fromTriggerfinger, except maybe for my voice. And then again. Triggerfinger’sthunder usually forces me to sing a certain way, and here it was different.Very liberating.”

Strengths

Froom says that as a producer he closely monitors all the strong points of anartist: “I try to highlight them, but not too much. The trick is to never betoo respectful. Otherwise, the result will be too soft and colorless. Rubenwanted nothing more than a lack of respect (laughs). His strongest point? That must be his colorful character. You notice that in his choice ofclothing, but you can also hear it in his music. He is also a great guitaristand singer. And his ego doesn’t stand in his way: the first chords of ‘Awake’come from me, for example. He could have thrown it to the trash can, but hesaw a challenge and came up with something fantastic about it.”

The lyrics of Block once again read cryptically, like a Rorschach test thatespecially seem to hold up a mirror to your own perversions. For example, ‘TheKey’ seems like a song about a stalker: “Could be”, Block smiles. “A crypticform once worked better within the whimsical nature of some songs. As aresult, sometimes multiple entrances present themselves and listeners may findtheir own secret back door. I like how, for example, Frank Black or DavidByrne can also create a mood with images and impressions.”

In the freezer compartment

We read on social media that Triggerfinger would remain “in the freezer for along time”. Now that drummer Mario Goossens and bassist Lange Polle are alsobusy with their own projects and hand-in-hand services for other artists, youwould think that the trio will miss its silver jubilee next year. Block widenshis eyes. “On the contrary.”

Froom chuckles: “I don’t think the boys are challenging each other with theirown projects. It’s not an adultery or ego trip like Mick Jagger, whooccasionally wants to prove that he can be just as successful without KeithRichards.”

Block nods: “After the summer we will write new material and after my tournext year it will be Triggerfinger’s turn again. The group is therefore notready to jump. I’m glad this came through. It was high time to take somepressure off the kettle. To let in some air.”

Looking to Glide appears 30/9 at PIAS.

Watch all performances from the duets episode – Best Singers – Best Singers

The duets episode is already the last episode of the fifteenth season of BestSingers. During the duets, the singers step out of their comfort zone. Somehave never sung a duet before, others do so regularly.

For Jan Smit, the evening of duets is his most favorite evening. After all theweeks that everyone has come together, the atmosphere is still good. The bestsingers are getting looser and what they have learned from each other latelycomes together in the duets.

If you’re going to go crazy, then together.>> Roxeanne Hazes

Claudia de Breij & Sarita Lorena – The Girl From Ipanema

Claudia de Breij has been listening to the song ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ sinceher younger years. She was a big fan of Sinatra in Kurt Cobain’s time, butalways very secretly. So she turned Nirvana on one side of her Walkman andSinatra on the other, so no one would notice. Together with Sarita she singsthe song ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ by Frank Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim.

Nielson & Roxeanne Hazes – Who I’m looking for

It was soon clear to Nielson that he would like to sing a song with RoxeanneHazes during the duets episode. For this, he delved into the story ofRoxeanne, where he found a song called “I’m With You” by Avril Lavigne. Thatsong is one of Nielson’s favorite songs ever. Of course Nielson and Roxeannechoose to translate the song into Dutch. They sing the new version ‘Who I amlooking for’.

This is truly an evergreen.>> Nielson

Blanks & Claudia de Breij – Heal you

Simon’s all-time favorite song is “Fix You” by Coldplay. That song reminds himof the music camp he often went to. The time with all participants of BesteZangers gives him the same feeling. Everyone grows together very quickly.Blanks is afraid he will fall straight into a big hole on the plane home.

Blanks likes to make an exception for Claudia. For the first time he sings inDutch, instead of English. Together with MEAU, Blanks has translated the song’Fix You’ into ‘Heel you’.

Sarita Lorena & Nielson – You’ll be in my heart

The song Sarita sings with Nielson is the soundtrack of the film Tarzan. Thissong is very important to Sarita because she always sings the song ‘You’ll bein my heart’ with her mother. As a little girl, the story of the film Tarzanmade a deep impression on her. A boy who loses both parents and is taken in byanother family. This time Sarita Lorena does not sing the song with hermother, but with Nielson. Nielson sings a song in English for the first timein Beste Zangers, which is completely outside his comfort zone.

Roxeanne Hazes & Jaap Reesema – Bitter Sweet Symphony

At the age of thirteen, Roxeanne Hazes got her very first boyfriend. Togetherthey often played the song ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ by The Verve. The song hasalways stayed with her and she still enjoys listening to it today. Because itis her favorite song, she likes to sing it together with Jaap Reesema.

Ferdi Bolland & Blanks – Circle of Life

Just like Sarita Lorena, Ferdi Bolland chooses a song from a musical. Namelythe well-known song by Elton John ‘Circle of Life’ from the Lion King. Ferdithinks it’s a beautiful song, which he would like to sing together withBlanks. The biggest reason to sing this song with Blanks is the story fromBlanks’ past.

Blanks used to sing the song with his class, to celebrate the life of hisdeceased friend Joost. Strangely enough, instead of a heavy moment, it was avery beautiful moment. That’s why the song has a special place in Blank’sheart.

Jaap Reesema & Sarita Lorena – Holiday in Spain

Jaap Reesema chooses to sing a song that Blanks had listed as an importantsong. He does not sing the song with Blanks, but with Sarita Lorena. Jaap andSarita sing ‘Holiday in Spain’ by Bløf with a touch of Portuguese.

‘You hear life in this music, that’s the power’

Yes, of course it is exciting: on Tuesday the band members meet for the firsttime and they dive into the rehearsal room together. Three days later, onFriday, they will tour for eleven concerts, starting in Almere. “But I’mespecially curious,” says pianist and arranger Julian Schneemann (1992) abouthis new project ‘Island Songs’. “I’ve been working on this for so long, andnow it’s finally happening.”

Also read: Beautiful horns ode to the guitar family

For Island Songs, Schneemann traveled to the edges of Europe: Ireland andCrete. He studied the local musical traditions and found strikingsimilarities, both in the way of singing and playing and in the social contextof the music. “They are living musical traditions, where melodies are passedon from father to son. The role of music in the community is very differentfrom here where we really only hear live music in concert halls. Music isreally part of life there,” says Schneemann.

Intimidating

The choice for Cretan music is not accidental, says Schneemann: „I have beengoing to Greece every summer all my life, my parents have a wooden sailingship there, an old fishing boat, and with that we sail to a different islandevery day. From an early age I have heard a lot of folk music there, thatsound has settled in my ear. Crete is at a crossroads of cultures and themusic contains many influences from Turkey and the Arab world.”

Julian’s father Bart Schneemann is artistic director of the Netherlands WindEnsemble. For the New Year’s Concert 2020 he brought the Greek brothers Nikosand Adonis Xylouris to Amsterdam. Julian wrote the arrangements for thespectacular performance – which can be seen on YouTube – and had a click withthe brothers. “When I asked them if I could come and study their music, theytook me in for weeks. They are like rock stars in Crete. When I told themsomewhere on the island that I was staying with the Xylouris brothers, peoplealmost fell off their chairs,” says Schneemann.

In the summer, the brothers perform night after night. And everyoneparticipates in the parties where they play, Schneemann noted: “Grandpas andgrandmas, small children, teenagers with hooded sweaters, the local machos –they all dance. For me as an outsider that was a very romantic image. But Ialso saw that it could be intimidating: they had to keep playing, and they hadto stay within the lines of tradition.”

The role of music in the community is very different than in the Netherlands

Folk music is a common thread through Schneemann’s professional existence. Heis the son of classical musicians, he himself studied jazz piano at theAmsterdam Conservatory. But for his pleasure, he mainly listened to music fromother cultures, in which he found something he lacked in classical and jazz:“The music is very earthy, they are strong, simple melodies, often very old, that sound slightly different every time. . You hear life, that’s theattraction.”

After graduating, he founded the group Caravan, with drummer Jeroen Batterink,a fellow student, and the Syrian oud player Jawa Manla, whom he knew from hiswork as an arranger for the NBE. The project was a success, they touredextensively and the third album was released this spring, Caravan III. Thefourth member of Caravan, violinist Emmy Storms, also participates in IslandSongs. “Emmy can play anything from a classical violin concerto to jazz. ButIrish music is her great love. I liked that too, but thanks to her I startedto delve into it even more,” says Schneemann.

the pub

Because he had no contacts in Ireland, he had to rely on the internet – andthe pub. “That was no punishment,” laughs Schneemann, who drove around theentire island in a rental car. “In the past people used to come together athome to sing, nowadays it is mainly in the pub. As a child you get to know thetradition by being immersed in it.”

The Irish contribution to Island Songs comes – except for Emmy Storms – fromthe famous bodhran player John Joe Kelly. The bodhrán is a frame drum (kind oftambourine) that is played with a stick.

The melodies that Schneemann learned from his Greek and Irish colleagues formthe basis of Island Songs, supplemented by some new compositions. At home hepuzzled together arrangements, which he then taught his band members againduring countless Zoom sessions. “There is a plan, but nothing is on paper –that was the agreement from the start. At Caravan I have always written allthe music, but this is really a joint project. All musicians know the pieces, they embody the music. During rehearsals we will find out exactly how we aregoing to play.”

How Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise Became One Of The Biggest Hip-Hop Hits Ever | Music

More than 1 billion streams on Spotify, just as many viewers on YouTube andmore than five million copies of a single sold: Gangsta ‘s Paradise canrightly be called one of the greatest hip-hop songs in history. With the deathof Coolio, the rapper who made the song in 1995, the artist and the song aretrending again 27 years later.

By Lara Zevenberg

The music scene of the 1990s was heavily influenced by rappers such as 2Pacand Notorious BIG. The influences of Coolio and his colleagues can still beheard in music that comes out now. Coolio’s biggest hit has been influenced bya soul and R&B legend. Gangsta ‘s Paradise uses parts of the melody andlyrics of Stevie Wonders Pasttime Paradise from 1976.

Gangsta ‘s Paradise _was written by Coolio, LV and producer Doug Rasheed forthe film’s soundtrack _Dangerous Minds. In the 1995 film, Michelle Pfeifferplays a teacher who goes to work at a high school in a troubled Californianeighborhood. Coolio was looking for a song that would represent the strugglesof children from a neighborhood where economic problems and racism play amajor role and came across the demo by singer LV

Stevie Wonder didn’t immediately give the green light

“It’s like Gangsta ‘s Paradise _there had to come. That it wanted to live, that it wanted to be born. And that I just had to get the message across,”Coolio later said about the writing process. He freestyled the first lines ofthe song, after which he finished the song in one session. _Gangsta ‘sParadise not without a struggle: Stevie Wonder still had to give approval.

The singer was not happy when he heard the first version. Wonder is not a fanof swearing and Coolio had quite a few swear words in that first version.”When Stevie Wonder heard it, he said there’s no chance I’ll have my song usedin a gangster song,” Coolio said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

At the request of Stevie Wonder, the rapper rewrote the song. “He didn’t likesome of the more obscene words I used. I used the N-word and in two places itsaid something like ‘ fucked in the ass ‘. If I didn’t change that, hewouldn’t put his signature. So I changed that. And once he heard the newversion, he loved it.”

Number 1 hit in fourteen countries

And Stevie Wonder wasn’t alone. Coolio scored a number 1 hit in fourteencountries, including the Netherlands. In Australia, the song was at number 1on the charts for fourteen weeks, a record. It wasn’t until 22 years laterthat that record was broken by Ed Sheerans Shape of You.

The rapper was showered with awards. He won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Soloand an MTV Video Music Award for the clip accompanying the song. In 2019,_Gangsta ‘s Paradise _Named one of the top 20 songs of the 1990s by Billboard.

“You know what _Gangsta ‘s Paradise _has done, other than that it sold well?It gave me a place in the world. It gave me the guarantee that I could tourwell into my sixties, if I wanted to. It’s been really good for me and it’staken me to places that most rappers, no matter how big they get, will nevergo. You won’t be seeing Fetty Wap of Future in Pakistan or Uzbekistan anytimesoon, are you?”

Coolio was born twenty years after the release of Gangsta ‘s Paradise stillreminded daily of its success. “I still have people who approach me on thestreet and tell me that it has helped them through difficult times. That ithas changed their lives. That is why I see the number as a gift. It hasnothing to do with me, but with the person who is listening to it at the time.It has to do with all people, everywhere.”

Kevin Hart Says ‘the World Should Step Out of’ Will Smith and Chris Rock Beef: ‘Let Them Recover’

Kevin Hart thinks everyone should stay out of the situation between Will Smithand Chris Rock.

On the latest episode of the Drink Champs podcast, Hart, 43, addressed whereSmith and Rock stand after the March 27 Oscars incident, saying it’s betweenthem, not outside parties.

“People make mistakes, and from mistakes they should be allowed time to f–in’recover,” the actor/comedian said. “And that this is no longer the world’sproblem — it’s Will and Chris’s problem. Let them deal with that. The worldshould step out of it and let them recover.”

He later added, “Let Will recover from it. Let Chris get back to work asnormal. Let two men be men and figure that out if they choose to. If they do,they do. If they don’t, they don’ t.”

Hart also said that Smith, 54, is a “legend” who paved the way for more moviestars to be given chances in Hollywood, adding that no one can take thatlegacy away from him.

“Will Smith is the reason why the idea of African Americans attached toglobal IP is normal. Studios took the gamble on more leads of color because ofthe work that Will Smith, Denzel [Washington] were doing in the beginning, right? You need the faces that are giving the universal return. So I’m notgonna s– on Will and act like he hasn’t been and wasn’t that guy.”

Argento said in Sept. 2018 that the pair “cheated” on each other. “It wasn’t aproblem for us,” she said. A fight via text with Argento, included in the bookand below, after she was spotted by paparazzi with French journalist HugoClément, tells a different story.

Reads one of Bourdain’s last texts: “You were reckless with my heart.”

(Argento did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, but told the NewYork Times “I clearly wrote to [Leerhsen] that he could not publish anythingI said to him.”)

It seemed like all they did was fight. Mostly she complained about him beingtoo possessive. Later Argento would say, “I always told him my kids camefirst, my work came second, and he came third.” One of his main worries, though, was that he would someday come fourth or fifth, behind her man or menof the moment. It wasn’t simple jealousy that was gnawing at him, he tried toexplain in private exchanges with her; it was his fear that she would destroytheir chances of sharing their lives by getting involved with outsiders. Thedistinction may seem subtle, but it was important to him.

Their relationship had evolved by June 2018 into something bizarrelycomplicated and decadent even by the standards of celebrities and others notbound by the usual societal—or logical— considerations. As far as he knew, shehadn’t been with anyone else in their time together except her ex-husband,Civetta—though both agreed they theoretically had every right to haveadditional lovers (as long he steered clear of Ottavia). He apparently hadmaintained no side relationships since meeting her except for the prostituteshe continued to frequent, presumably telling himself they didn’t count becausethere was no emotional involvement and because he and Argento were sofrequently separated. Meanwhile he did his best to keep Argento loyal to himby giving her money and moral support as well as by ingesting large amounts ofsteroids, human growth hormone, and Viagra so that his age was less likely tocome between them. It was this world-class mess of what once had been a loveaffair that Tony was desperately trying to keep going when—with him justsettling in to begin the Kaysersberg shoot with Eric Ripert—Argento showed upon the paparazzi websites cavorting in the streets of Rome (and in the lobbyof the Hotel de Russie, where she and Tony had enjoyed romantic interludes)with a handsome young French journalist named Hugo Clément. Sometimes, ifrarely, the ZPZ crew had welcomed Tony and Asia’s phone fights, thinking theymight end in a permanent breakup. These phone fights were different.

A mysterious Twitter account called @justicefortony—it has since been takendown but it is thought to have belonged to a member of the ZPZ crew—put outthe word that Tony and Argento “started fighting on Tuesday, June 5. Tony hadto leave the set multiple times to talk to her on the phone.Things escalatedon Wednesday when by all accounts she told him she no longer wanted to be withhim.Everyone was keeping an eye on him all day and night because he wasincredibly distraught. screaming phone calls through the day. By Thursday heseemed to be better and kind of wanted everyone to back off.”

One possible reason for his elevated mood was that he’d had a good time thenight before when, with the cameras rolling, he and Ripert had visited a twoMichelin star restaurant called JY’s in the nearby town of Colmar. Theproprietor and chef, Jean-Yves Schillinger, had with Tony fifteen yearsearlier when he’d had a place in New York City; and as Tony and Ripertexperienced his high-toned take on Alsatian cooking, memories came rollingback on waves of crisp local whites. Toward the end of the meal, Schillinger,a handsome blond Frenchman of fifty-five, proposed that he, Tony, Ripert, andthe crew make a beer run to Freiburg, Germany, thirty miles to the southeast, for a nightcap—and off they all went like a bunch of spring breakers. PartsUnknown was not regularly broadcast in Kaysersberg, which accounted forTony’s anonymity there, but it did air in Freiburg, and as soon as Tonyentered the crowded beer garden he became Anthony Bourdain again, therecipient of allos , cheers , and hearty handshakes, all of which hereturned with a wide smile. “He enjoyed every minute of it,” Schillinger toldme when I visited his restaurant. “He lit up like the Tony I once knew.Everything was normal.”

That night before he went to bed, Ripert, who had the room next door to Tony’sat their hotel, Le Chambard, and who had of course been worried about hisfriend, put his ear to the wall and heard peaceful snoring, and slept betterhimself as a result.

His whole adult life, drinking and eating with friends had been Tony’sdefinition of joy. And he had a particular affection for the hearty cuisine inthat sauerkraut-scented corner of the world. But the night out with friends, away from his phone, may well have triggered a moment of self-discovery. Bybriefly reliving his past with Schillinger and Ripert and his crew, he mayhave gotten a glimpse of how far he had come. By experiencing what he hadbeen, he may have seen more clearly what he’d turned into—a character out of asordid, slightly deranged James Ellroy novel, a doomed and desperate lover whohired a private detective to soil an obscure kid actor for the sake of a womanwho respected him less for each effort he made on her behalf. The kind of manwho had talented, loyal people living in constant fear of being banished froma show for which they’d worked hard and given up much to make great. It was anespecially horrible thing for Tony to learn about himself, that he had losthis integrity in pursuit of a woman who seemed to spend her life performingfor the paparazzi and clowning on Instagram, but perhaps there was someconsolation and peace in finally seeing things for what they were.

The next day Tony was fighting with Argento again. She was pulling out of theIndia episode in which she’d been scheduled to appear, she said, because shecouldn’t stand him and his possessiveness. His browsing history showed that inthe last three days of his life he googled “Asia Argento” several hundredtimes. On the night before he died he was involved in a text exchange withher:

AB: I’m okay. I am not spiteful. I am not jealous that you have been withanother man. I don’t own you. You are free. As I said. As I promised. As Itruly meant.

But you were careless. You were rackless with my heart. my life. The Russian.. . It’s only that that hurts’, my A.

Perhaps it’s in both our characters. But you are always honest with me. I wantto be honest with you.

I don’t begrudge you this part of you.

As I hope you will not understand me.

But it’s that stings.

I meant and mean everything I have ever said to you. But I hope you will havemercy on me for these feelings.

AA: I can’t take this.

Argento goes on by saying that she can no longer stay in her relationship withBourdain, who has shown that he is all too similar to the other men she hasdated.

AB: It would have been so easy to have helped me out here. I required solittle. But “f– you” is your answer.

As they continue their dialogue, she complains about his “idiotpossessiveness,” calls him a “ducking [sic] bourgeois,” and tells him to “callthe f–ing doctor.” “I am the victim here,” she says.

AB: My A. I can’t believe you have so little affection or respect for methat you would be without empathy for this.

After the next day’s shoot, Tony turned down Ripert’s suggestion of dinner andwent out by himself. He ate a lot and drink a lot. Ripert got up in the middleof the night and again put his ear to the wall, but he heard nothing.

Clooney and Robert’s only rescue

If you’re tired of our rainy little country, buy a cinema ticket to Ticket toParadise to be in sunny Bali for an hour and 45 minutes. It’s entertaining towatch Julia Roberts and George Clooney fall in love again, but it’s even morefun to watch them bicker.

You often hear people complain that they don’t make rom-coms like those from25 years ago – one with a charming cast, witty script and iconic location.Ticket to Paradise promises to meet all those requirements and that’s whyit’s the Film Review of the Week here Subway.

Always working formulas

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of comedy in this movie, especially whenDavid (Clooney) and Georgia (Roberts) fire insults at each other. They playdivorced parents who are forced to see each other again because their daughteris head over heels to marry a seaweed farmer in Bali. To prevent theirdaughter Lily (Kaitlyn Dever) from saying yes, they bury the hatchet and tryto stop the wedding together.

It is a classic formula of various clichés. Exes who reunite, enemies who fallin love and have to work together against their will. It works well in Ticketto Paradise. You’re waiting for Clooney and Robers to realize they’ve fallenin love again, and when that moment finally arrives, it doesn’t disappoint.

good friendship

George Clooney and Julia Roberts have been seen together in cinemas before.Money Monster and the Ocean s franchise are just a few examples. They havealso been good friends all these years. Roberts recently told in an interviewwith bazaar that the Clooneys saved her from loneliness on the set of_Ticket to Paradise._ The actor took his family with him, but not Roberts.“This is the longest period I have ever been away from my family. I haven’tbeen alone that long since I was 25.”

Dolphin Fail in Ticket to Paradise

You understand in the first fifteen minutes why the film Ticket to Paradise_is called. You see on the screen the beautiful landscape of an Indonesianisland. At least, that’s the illusion the viewer gets. The film was not shotin Bali at all, but in Australia. Another actress we encounter in the film isBillie Lourd. She plays Wren, daughter Lily’s best friend. The two actressespreviously played together in Olivia Wilde’s _booksmart, a more modern andvery good version of Super Bad. Wren is surprisingly not a superfluouscheerful note, partly thanks to her the dose of jokes is finely divided.

One of the lesser aspects of the film are the dolphins. Of course, such adazzling scene of the sea cannot be missed, but when you see the CGI-createdanimals, you actually want to look away because of how fake it looks. It isalmost inconceivable that the film has a budget for A-list actors, but not forgood special effects.

Julia Roberts’ long-awaited rom-com return

The director of this movie is Ol Parker. He wrote and directed, among otherthings: Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again , the sequel to the story of the samename in which a daughter tries to bring her parents together on a sunnyisland. The plot is not original, but it is entertaining.

What makes this movie worth watching is the acting of the lead actors. Despitenot appearing in rom-coms for twenty years, Roberts has certainly notforgotten it. Ticket to Paradise isn’t going to be a classic like prettywoman or notting Hill it is a nice addition to her careerere. Thechemistry that the Oscar -Having winners together makes this predictablestory easily manageable.

Ticket toParadiseSource: Universal Pictures

It’s a great movie to watch if you want to get away from the real world for awhile. Don’t assume plot twists or wow effects: it’s actually exactly what youexpect. During the credits, the viewer will see all kinds of bloopers passingby. That gives even more the feel good vibe again, because it becomes clearthat the cast is also joking with each other outside of the acting. You areguaranteed to leave the cinema with a smile on your face.
